Blade Runner: The Director's Cut has finally been given the treatment it deserves, and this is just step one in the many new things
to come. Let me just say I was floored when I took a look at the new 2006 release. The movie has benefitted greatly from
a fresh HD scan. After doing a little of my own research, I've come to the conclusion that the original is a direct port from the
transfer made in 1992 for the VHS release. As such, this transfer has no where near the quality and detail of the new release.
Better yet, much of the dirt that covered the transfer has been removed. The edge enhancement has also been fixed. There
is not as much visible grain but this, I feel, is because the original release had video noise and not natural film-grain which this
release has. I see no obvious areas that look like noise reduction has been applied. Contrast boosting can be seen in
caps 2, 3, 5, 7. But there is less in cap 15. This is unfortunate but the film is slightly brighter making the movie more clear.
Nothing has been drastically changed but there are a few curious colour corrections. Mostly the night and darker scenes
have a blue tint to them. This was slightly present in the original disc so one could say this transfer just brings the colour out
more. But I think it's safe to say the colours have been timed a bit differently. The overly red tones have been toned
down. Caps 8-11 show this with less red skin tones. Overall this new transfer is a lot better than the original.

I'm willing to bet the original edition will be sharper than the remaster.

I think the 2006 transfer is quite wrong (Blade Runner should be red, not blue), but there's less EE, so that's an improvement.

Couldn't care less about the upcoming SE.

Yup, they've changed to the wrong colours in some of those sky shots , particularly no.9. Otherwise it's an excellent remastering job.

Yeah that's a bit annoying... everything's much "cooler" giving the entire film a different look... this may have been how Ridley wanted it originally - but it's not how "the fans" remember the film though... Lucas strikes again?

Besides it would change the mood of the dream sequence wouldn't it?!

Btw, the poll is wrong... the "A little" option has no meaning. You asked "Is the new transfer an improvement in all areas" and that's simply a yes or no answerable question (It is not however an improvement in ALL areas).

Oh I so can't wait for the super-duper SE. It's been ages since I've seen the masterpiece that is Blade Runner.

The color grading is changed but I'm all for whatever Scott thinks is the best look. Overall I think the new transfer is fine.

Then again, how do we know that this new look is what Ridley Scott wanted? I'm not sure he's been that involved with this release... however if the super-duper SE looks the same I'd be convinced

The image quality of the new release is vastly superior however I really hope at least one of the versions in the Ultimate Edition set will still have the old colours. Deckard's spinner flying through the golden sky above the Tyrell buildings is one of the iconic moments of the film in my opinion.

It would be nice if they could have the colours unchanged for the theatrical edition; then the new, final cut could be "how it was supposed to be" and the theatrical could be "how fans remember it."

The transfer on the new release is an absolute disaster! Horribly clipped highlights, no extra detail in the image (save for when the boosted brightness illuminates certain areas too dark in the original) and Cronenweth's very distinctive cinematography has been completely obliterated by the colour remastering.
