Poltergeist: Pan & Scan vs Widescreen

Post by captainjoe »

Poltergeist

Top: Pan and Scan
Bottom: Widescreen
*both sourced from the 1997 DVD from Warner.

For a complete look at video comparisons between the original dvd and the newly remastered dvd follow this link:

This really gives you a good look at what you're missing out with Pan and Scan versions.

The first one doesn't match up because I think the main title pan and scan version is from a completely different
source. You can tell because of the difference in quality and color from the widescreen one. These were taken
from the region 1 dual-sided dvd.
I didn't crop these or anything. Just shows you how much is actually missing, it's pretty bad.

It just goes to show how bad "pan and scanning" really is. It amazes me most people don't care.

Bloody hell, thats awful. The figures in the last two shots (on the left/right) are completely missing in the pan and scan edition

Yeah, Poltergeist is one of the worst offenders when shown in Pan & Scan. Horrible stuff.

Can't wait for the Special Edition DVD this year! :D

That's gonna be a kick ass DVD if Warner plays their cards right and gives fans what they want.

It's Warners. I'd trust them with my first-born. :D

 They're a great company and they treat their films with respect so I'm not doubting the quality of the set.
