Cutie Honey (2004)

Just watched this. It's pretty cool, quality opening anyway. It's based on the Manga that later turned into the 70's anime series (which I know nothing about).

The story depicts Cutie Honey's quest to rescue her uncle from the clutches of the evil Panther Claw gang. Eriko Sato who plays Honey occasionaly walks around in her underwear and has admirable boobage facilities.

The costumes are outrageous, strikingly vivid and colourful... just like the rest of the film really. The camera techniques are pretty neat, almost Kitamura-esque with flashy camera angles etc. The fight actors can't fight at all but clever filming techniques made everyone look like martial art legends.

So yeah, as I mentioned earlier... the opening is class. However the film changes its pace completely towards the middle, totally dragging. It then picks up again for a while but the ending is filled with OTT melodrama, which I felt was kinda out of place. It tried to emphasise its underlying theme of love a bit too much.

I love the anime segments and the real life/anime segments...

So yeah, not perfect but pretty cool. Oh, it's also got those great Japanese 'toot-toot' tunes... and the 5.1 track... OMG totally awesome.

Yeah the opening sequence was luuvly on the eye ;)

I really liked this mainly cos I fancied the main lead and the repressed police woman with glasses.

JA!

The J-DVD unsubbed is the only version for now.

A few people caught this at the Leeds International Film Festival.

So there should be a UK DVD released in the future... if this film has a UK distributor.

If its got action, ladies and CGI someone in the UK will buy it! sad to say, but very true.

just saw this today - (w/ kloofy subs) and its an altogether fun movie - nothing special - nothing particularly taxing on the brain - its just stupid bubblegum pop with cute characters and whacky cg enhanced action.

drags a little in the middle but both the opening and closing scenes are great fun.

harmless but not essential - i personally wish i'd saved my money.
