Damn it. I do have Sky and I repeatedly miss films that are shown on this channel, despite many people making mention of it in various threads. Tsk. I'll have to wait 'til next week now.

I think they show films on a regular basis; it's not just a one-off as far as I can recall.

Depends on how long you've had Sky. The Sky magazine usually has listings for the forthcoming month, but I can't remember how comprehensive it is. It'll probably cover the major channels, but whether or not Player is covered, I couldn't say.

Why is Freeview crap? Is it just the range of channels, or is it something else? I ask because I barely watch Sky (just don't have the time for much viewing at the moment) and I'm paying a little less than £50 a month, so it's not an inconsiderable drain...

When Player started a couple of months ago they showed a trio of Martial Arts movies (Fighter in the Wind, Drunken Master, The Hitman) then stopped cold replacing it with UFC-type mince. Good to see they're starting up again.

Dammit! Despite the warning I've still managed to miss Skinny Tiger, Fatty Dragon. I've set Sky+ for Tiger On The Beat on tomorrow, so even if I forget it, the box won't.

I just wanted to ask what's wrong with Freeview? It's FREE you can't expect the same number of channels or quality Sky offer, which incidently is more crud than good if you look at it channel by channel.

Personally I think Freeview is excellent. I hate paying subscription charges, that's what's crappy :D . It has everything I need (bar UK Gold and I could get that if I really wanted it) with 2 music channels, a history channel, 2 new channels and lots of general entertainment channels.

Unless you specifically want the movies (I buy more than enough DVDs) or Sport (no thanks) that is. Without those it's a bloated over priced lump of junk.

My Dad has Sky though and I have an RF loop-through up to my TV so can watch it too (but only in Mono). I don't tend to bother most of the time.

I find it has far to many channels and finding what you want to watch is a nightmare. If you could reorder the channels like you can on Freeview that would be really useful.

I've moved all the cruddy TopUPTV channels well out of the way and also moved the channels I like near the start.

I've never heard of Player it sounds like one of the hundreds of probably decent channels that get lost between all the gumf. What type of channel is it?

p.s - Sorry for hijacking your thread I'm interested to hear why you dislike Freeview.

the channels were just boring, i guess there was not one of interest to me, and besides that the top-up tv was damn annoying, watching a movie and it shut off at 11 i was so pissed. there was just so many shit channels it wasnt worth it.

sky has the feature of being able to go a week or so ahead and see whats on, and having enough channels for the whole families interests. mum liking the true movies dad the older movies, hallmark etc etc. i watch the docus and animal channel, freeview didnt have that much of that, and besides, simpsons on sky one...lol

Are you saying with TopUPTV it would cut off in the middle of a film? You're kidding. I've not given TopUPTV ago. I would for a fiver definitely (UK Gold is one of my fave channels on Sky) but for £7.99 it's to much.

I'd possibly watch Sky more if it wasn't for the Mono sound and crappy RF loop through, you lose all that RGB Scart loveliness.

Fair enough on the rest but on this one so does Freeview. It has a 14 day EPG, provided you have an EPG ready box (which all boxes are nowadays).

Swordsman was on Player tonight.

Last night it was Wing Chun, not Naked Weapon.

ITV4 showed Once a Thief last night (16:9, subtitled).

Next Saturday (on Player) is Island of Fire.

I expect Naked Weapon will be coming soon. It's more fun than Naked Killer at least.

Why do they only ever show films to which DVD releases are already available in this country?

I suspect the majority of the people on this forum have seen or bought all those films already. Why do we get the same thing again & again? Its like with all these new re-releases by different companies & in different countries.

We hear about a new company & then get a list of their upcoming titles, and there's nothing on those lists that hasn't already been released!

actually IM i havent seen most of these films before and cetrainly no bought them on dvd...you know the cool thing is...you dont have to watch the channel...so why complain? its actually decent for tv to show a foregin movie in its orginal language with subs, rather than the usual awful crappy dubbing that we usually get... man peopleare never satisifed with what thye got, sheesh its better than getting fuck all isnt it?
