Censorship/classification boards discussion

Post by BiscLimpkit »

Figure I'd start a new thread, instead of destroying the BR II one.

So we've basically all agreed that the German censorship board is a mockery. Just browse any PG-13/12/15 rated film on imdb, click on alternate versions, and you're bound to find something like "was censored in Germany."

Actually, going to the cinema is difficult in Germany (from what my German friends told me). Expensive tickets, it'll be dubbed and probably censored.

I think they are more leniant towards DVDs but films with the highest rating are stashed away in hidden rooms (away from the public's eye), alongside porn and adult material. So if you feel well filthy buying an uncut version of Jaws or something.

Again this is what I heard from a friend of mine, who is a huge cinema enthusiast but sadly, lives in Germany. He loved it here in the UK and told me that we take it for granted that we get a wide range of films that are:

Uncut (generally)
Original soundtrack
Cheap (if you're a student or hold a cineworld pass).

MPAA suck major horse schlong. Ok so the attitude towards unrated movies is now favourable, with plenty of commercial benefits to be made. But that doesn't hide the fact that they are and always will be ridiculously PC. It's alright for a ton of imitable violence to be shown on screen but they are so conservative when it comes to sex.

BBFC are not perfect. I don't agree with some of their policies but are a hell of a lot more leniant than the MPAA will ever be.

That is something I agree with. The BBFC are a lot better than the MPAA in terms of consistency. I personally just don't 'get' the R rating. It's fine to have one person over 18 bring in someone who isn't to watch a film. A point well made (one of many) by South Park: The Movie.

I'm pretty simple about this: ANY form of censorship means I wont buy it. If the movie is dubbed, i wont buy it. If it's cut I wont buy it. If it's got crappy AV quality, I wont buy it.

I am my own censor: I read reviews and if I feel a movie would be too gross or whatever for my liking, I wont buy it. I dont need someone between me and the moviecompany making those decisions for me. They have no right whatsoever to cut movies up. Who are they too decide what's right or wrong?
Especially since these people doing this are usually the same people that are always overreacting to stuff happening in movies and videogames and just have the general perception that games and movies have a huge influence on how people live their lifes, and how it affects their morals. I dont believe in that. I believe parenting should be done by the parents, the school and the friends you hang out with.
