Iraq Today - The Iraq News Thread
Hey,
I came across this article at the New York Times website. As we have so many threads about Iraq and the general "War on Terror" issue, I decided to open this thread which is for Iraq-news only.

Four Britons die in Iraq attacks
Two Britons working for a US TV network have been killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq, hours after two British soldiers died in a similar attack.
Paul Douglas, 48, and James Brolan, 42, died in Baghdad when the US military unit they were based with was attacked.
On Sunday, two members of the Queen's Dragoon Guards were killed in Basra, and two others were injured, also by a roadside bomb.
Nine UK service personnel have now been killed in Iraq this month.
CBS correspondent Kimberly Dozier, 39, who holds dual US-British citizenship and previously worked for BBC World Service radio, was seriously injured in Monday's attack in Baghdad, the network said.
The CBS team had been on a patrol with soldiers of the 4th Infantry Division.
The attack, which also killed a US army officer and an Iraqi interpreter, was one of a wave of bombings in and around the Iraqi capital which left 40 dead, mainly Iraqi civilians.
It was with profound sorrow that I heard of the tragic deaths last night of two British soldiers
Defence Secretary Des Browne
TV crew die in Baghdad attack
Sunday's attack on the British troops happened in Gizayza, north-west Basra, at 1830 BST.
They had been on a routine patrol in an armoured Land Rover, in support of operations to disrupt the insurgency.
A Ministry of Defence spokesman said: "The soldiers were from the Queen's Dragoon Guards, part of the Basra City Battlegroup. The next of kin of those killed have been informed."
The names of the dead are expected to be released on Tuesday.
Defence Secretary Des Browne said: "It was with profound sorrow that I heard of the tragic deaths last night of two British soldiers."
A British Embassy spokesman in Baghdad said: "It is always a tragedy when terrorism claims the life of any innocent person in Iraq and our sympathies go to their friends and families in Iraq and elsewhere."
'Broad support'
Military spokesman Major Sebastian Muntz said Sunday's attack on the soldiers followed "some very successful operations over the last few days".
"The broad mass of the population support what we are doing and are very much on side," he said.
"Clearly there are elements of the population that are trying to disrupt our activity and don't want the secure environment that our soldiers are trying to provide."
Liberal Democrat defence spokesman Nick Harvey said such incidents were "all too frequent".
"It is becoming increasingly dangerous for our troops. We need a strategy, making it clear to all, precisely what we're trying to achieve in Iraq."
The Queen's Dragoon Guards, which can trace its history back to 1685, recruits largely from Wales and its regimental museum is in Cardiff. They have been based in Osnabruck, Germany, since 2003.

Personally I think all Western forces should've pulled out yonks ago. If the old oppressive ruling minority want to blow up the formally oppressed Shiite majority than let them. The Shiite government should handle their own affairs, no sense sacrificing thousands of innocent inadequately trained young men & women just so that the greedy US/UK governments can get at Iraq's oil deposits - there's still plenty of oil left in Texas.

interesting article LD
howver the one thing that really bugs me about this and many other articles regarding this is the constant refferals of "zionists" as the jewish people. they are not. they are an entire different group masquerading behind the pretence of being jewish whilst it was them who permitted the explotiation of their so called "fellow people" most jews denounce anything to do with zionism and the zionists...
im unsure in this article about the referal to zionists by the president and der speigel, if they mean the jewish people or as teh elite group that they are, but the misconception really gets on my nerves

I recently found that I am 1/8th jewish. I am disappointed that I didn't inherit the stereotype racial behaviours:- I am neither good with maths or money management. I am greedy though. I am glad that I didn't inherit the massive nose gene.
I like how smug the Iranian president is. Always good to have a man who isn't afraid to speak his mind. Also continuing to use nuclear power in face of massive pressure was bold move, gotta respect that.
It's all futile though, Israel will just bomb their nuclear plants again. They try to do anything funny, Israel will just blow them to kingdom come and India would do the same to Pakistan.

Car Bomber Targeting Governor of Aghan Province Kills Three
There shall be no rest until insurgents who cause tragedies like this are brought to justice. The men & women of America's Army are ever vigilant.

From the FoxNews article Eva posted:
I don't blame the soldiers (although they pulled the triggers), but the dirty US war procedures, supported by a dirty government. Soliders are mostly following idiotic orders.
How is this no wrongdoing? The U.S. military said Saturday that it had found no wrongdoing by American troops accused of intentionally killing civilians during a raid in a village north of Baghdad that left up to 13 Iraqis dead.
Of course. You can't blame them. It IS the normal US proceedure. They wanna find (kill) a few persons whom they believe are terrorists and what do they do? They bomb the whole neighborhood from air. They take a lot collateral deaths into account. Would they do the same if they were American lifes? And they expect Iraqis to be thankful, not realizing that they seed more enemies. People they will call terrorists. The investigation of the attack in Ishaqi concluded that the U.S. troops followed normal procedures in raising the level of force after they came under fire while approaching a building where they believed was an Al Qaeda terrorist was hiding, said Maj. Gen. William Caldwell, a U.S military spokesman.

Hmmm... let me see... imagine you have been living a life under a tyrant (Saddam). You are restricted to do things, because otherwise you get punished the shit out of you. However, you and your family, your friends, your neighbours etc at least live. You can work etc. In come air raids, killing your father while he was praying in a beadhouse. Maybe your little sister on her way to school. You might have gotten away with your arm cut off or something similar. But hey... at the end of the day they removed the tyrant... Hmmm? Haven't they previously encouraged him to attack Iran? Or provided him with weapons as well? Why are they stealing our crude materials now? Is this the price we are paying for having the tyrant removed? We weren't even asked about this offer of service. Didn't they say they just wanted to disarm Iraq from its weapons of mass destruction anyway? Iraq is now a place of chaos again.
But hey... out of some reason, I love these guys with their flags and eagles and their chocolate bars.

Iraqi Students Dragged Off Bus, Killed
These Sunni insurgents need to realise that all the murderous terrorist activities under the sun won't see them installed back into power. Great America ended their tyrannical reign and freed the Shiite people who now enjoy the rights brought by democracy. Manifest Destiny strides onwards.

LOL, the whole Foxnews website is a joke anyway. While it is true what they write, their authors are a bunch of unknowing and uneducated idiots when it comes to the Middle East. How can you be a Sunni Arab? You could be an Iraqi Arab, a Jordanian Arab or so. But Sunni Arab? LOL.The gunmen apparently spared four Sunni Arabs in what appeared to be one the worst sectarian atrocities in recent weeks.
Most recent news:
According to the Iarqi Home Office 4 Russians working at the Russian embassy were kidnapped yesterday.

The most right-leaning biased new source Foxnews was used, the ridiculously redneck yank imagery and statements, that I linked to a the site of a computer game (America's Army), that I used a phrase from Zero Wing (For great justice), that the picture of Jesus has Commander Riker's head imposed on it.
Enough lulz have been had now.
Like this link from the site you linked to:

It's an interesting read.
