"Blade Runner: The Final Cut
It's almost too good to be true, but Warner Home Video has detangled the web of rights issues that have held up Blade Runner's re-release. Daily Variety has just reported that the studio will issue a new remastered edition of the 1992 "Director's Cut" of the sci-fi classic in September. That disc will be available for a scant four months, after which it will go on moratorium.
Blade Runner: The Final Cut will arrive in 2007 for a limited 25th anniversary theatrical run, followed by a special edition multi-disc set that will include the 2007 cut plus the three previous versions (1982 Domestic Cut, 1982 International Cut, 1992 Director's Cut) as alternate viewing. The set will also contain bonus materials.
Warner's home video rights to "Blade Runner" lapsed a year ago, but the studio has since negotiated a long-term license. The picture has had a troubled history from the start: When director Ridley Scott ran over budget, completion bond guarantors took control of the film before its 1982 theatrical release, adding a voiceover and happy ending. That version was replaced by the much better-received Director's Cut in 1992, but Scott has long been unhappy with it, complaining that he was rushed and unable to give it proper attention. The filmmaker started working on the final cut version in 2000, but that project was shelved by Warner soon after, apparently because the studio couldn't come to terms with producer Jerry Perenchio over rights issues. Are we to assume Daily Variety will be doing the LE DVD but WB all the rest?
It will be hard but I'll wait for the FOUR Cut SE and of course will be there to not only see it on the big screen (what an experience) but a whole new cut.
- Brad is very happy!
Blade Runner is an incredible film. Oh man I can't wait.
I think including the 1982 American Cut is a bit of an overkill but I can live with it. I wonder if this cut will make it to the International DVDs? It will need to be at least 3 Discs (The International and American cuts can be on 1 disc with Seamless Branching) BUT hopefully a fourth extras disc.
p.s - They really should rename the 1992 DC for this release. The 2007 Cut should definitely be called the "Final Director's Cut".

I'm really not interested in anything but the 1992 director's cut.
I hope there'll be some kind of remastered single-disc edition coming out.

I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Woops. Yeah, my bad. I skipped the beginning.
Great news, then.
A cheap edition for the casual viewer, then a huge edition for the hardcore fan.

Yeah, but I'm afraid they might be tempted to restore some of the voice-overs (which I don't like). Wait and see...Aren't you interested in seeing the 2007 cut?

WWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOHHOOOOOOO. A BLADE RUNNER SE with all the cuts! All my Christmas's have come at once.
I really want to see the '82 TC, I've only ever seen the '92 DC.
Rubbish, they were forced upon Scott. Harrison Ford did a reportedly bad hammy job of them on purpose so that they'd be removed.Yeah, but I'm afraid they might be tempted to restore some of the voice-overs (which I don't like). Wait and see...

Do you watch it on your PC or have you downcoverted it back to SD for DVD viewing?
Blade Runner to return on HD DVD and Blu-ray + Another confirmation:

I may pick up the 1 Disc LE just to be on the safe side and tbh I doubt I'll be able to wait anyway.

Nope, watch is on my tv, it is a full iso image which i use on my Mvisto gadget. Its a great gadget.
The quality between the HD sourced film and the normal dvd release is so striking, for once a fan made edit is easily the best version out there currently. Although i cannot wait for 2007 to come out.
I'm still wondering what to get later on next year, HD DVD or Blu-Ray???
I just wish people would choose 1 format.

Completely unconfirmed and just comments from a DVD Times reader but still interesting:
"'On the Edge of Blade Runner' is on the 2-disc set for Sept., with trailers etc. leaving the real meat extras-wise for 2007."
'On the Edge of Blade Runner' is a 52 minute documentary.

YES! I hoping that de Lauzirika would be producing the extras for BR.
You veteran Bits readers will also be thrilled to learn that longtime Ridley Scott DVD producer Charles de Lauzirika and his team are involved in project, and have already been working on the set for a while now.
Lauzirika, as you may know, was the producer responsible for Fox's 9-disc, massively comprehensive Alien Quadrilogy box set, as well as the multi-disc special editions of Scott's Gladiator (from DreamWorks), Black Hawk Down (from Sony) and Kingdom of Heaven (recently available from Fox), among others. You should also know that Lauzirika and his team are big fans of Blade Runner themselves. Rest assured that they know what you guys all want to see on this release, and they're working very hard to make it as good as it can be. Trust us when we say that this project is in EXACTLY the right hands.

More info and proper confirmation from Warner BUT zero mention of the New 2007 final cut??? -
http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=61696
It also says "The film will be released theatrically in select major U.S. cities"????
EDIT: Oh wait it says ALSO three cuts will be included, odd not to mention it though.

From thedigitalbits.com
"First up today, there's something I wanted to mention before I talk about other subjects: I've just gotten the chance to see Warner's newly remastered Blade Runner DVD... and let me tell you, if you love this film even half as much as we do, the new disc is an absolute MUST have. The new transfer makes the original DVD - which was one of the very first discs Warner ever released back in March of 1997 - look like dog chow by comparison. Contrast, color, detail... all are dramatically improved with the new anamorphic transfer. Like the first DVD, the newly remastered disc is the 1992 Director's Cut and it's movie-only. As a new multi-disc Blade Runner special edition DVD box set is already planned by Warner for release next year (to celebrate the film's 25th anniversary), this remastered DVD is only going to be available for four months. But it retails for just $19.98 (it's on sale at Amazon for just $13.99) and like I said... if you're really a fan and you've been living with the crappy original DVD release, that's a small price to pay for a much better transfer to hold you over until the box set next year. The DVD street date has been moved up by Warner to this coming Tuesday (9/5) from the original 9/12 street date, so when you're out buying your DVDs next week definitely keep it in mind."
Screen caps from the new transfer - simply beautiful.

I'll wait for the R2UK in early October for the superior PAL transfer.
