Armour of God: HKL vs IVL

As with many FS prints, the colours on the IVL are completely messed-up.
Subtitles come from the same source. HKL subtitles have better grammar, IVL subtitles are in engrish but they're also more accurate.

IVL: Edge-enhanced grainy washed-out mess.
HKL: Soft but watchable.

IVL is too bright.
HKL is too dark.

Conclusion:
If you have a normal TV (<32"), then you should probably stick with HKL.
The lack of sharpness won't be noticeable, and colours will be better.

If you have a big screen, the lack of sharpness on the HKL will be too problematic. You'll have to get the IVL (despite its many flaws).

Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Overall I prefer the IVL look.

What went wrong with the FS Remasters? The first batch of Fox R1 DVDs were so much better than the HKLs. ITLOD4 Fox is much better than the HKL.

Their Royal Warriors and HK 1941 are also very good (I've not seen the HKL HK 1941 to compare).

Agree with Brad, I prefer the IVL.

Much sharper, more aesthetically pleasing, though cap 2 is admittedly overly grainy.

I thought the IVL was fine, much sharper than the HKL.
We don't all have Tom's high standards with his enormous projector :D

That's what makes these HKL vs. IVL captures so hard to call. A real-world test is much, much more accurate than capture comparisons.

I'd buy the IVL, since it comes packaged with the Asian cut of the other film with the Cantonese track.

Just watched, after many years the HKL of this.i thought it was fine considering it's a really old release. So my question is,has it been bettered anywhere in recent years? The ivl doesn't look like it warrants an upgrade.Great movie, forgot how much i liked this one.i've neglected Jackie's classics far too long, time to rectify that in the coming year.

I have the IVL set just for that - and the extras were ok, from memory.

HKL's are often the nicest way to enjoy the films, bar the Remixed ones and Dubtitled releases. Just avoid them unless they're good for extras too
