Joey cancelled - no one blinks

Post by EvaUnit02 »

Amen. The dire sitcom Joey has been cancelled after two seasons, just like everyone predicted.
Friends spin-off sitcom Joey has been permanently cancelled by US TV broadcaster NBC after being labelled a catastrophic ratings failure.

The show continued the story of Matt LeBlanc's character Joey Tribbiani, but failed to capture the magic of the original programme.

In March, the series was put on hold after US ratings dipped to four million viewers, compared to the 18.6 million who viewed the debut episode in 2004.

I'm surprised it last 2 years. My brother liked it (but only mildly) I thought it was a very lame cash in.

Really awful sitcom. Like bradavon, I'm surprised it even lasted this long. Spin-offs that feature characters other than the main draws are rarely successful. I think Frasier would have to be one of the great exceptions to this rule, however. Trapper John, M.D., the spinoff from M*A*S*H was semi-successful. But remember all the spin-offs from Seinfeld? They all bombed.

Fraiser was genius until about Season 8 or so.

I take it you haven't seen Curb Your Enthusiasm then?

But yes, the show where Julia-Louise Dreyfuss where was a nightclub singer and the one where Jason Alexander was a motivational speaker were terrible and got the axe rather quickly.

But that's not really a spin-off. Larry David plays Larry David. He's himself, and doesn't have an actor playing somebody similar to him named George Costanza. Different networks, too.

This was popular here too but I never got it tbh. I enjoyed it but never found it funny. I only watched 2-3 episodes (I think).

There were spin-offs. I know this was huge in the States but as far as I know not over here. I think it's case of different humour for different nationalities. I didn't think it was very good.

Friends on the other hand came across the ocean very well and was huge hear too. It was decent up until seasons 5-6 but they should've stopped there. Some of the earlier episodes are so well written compared to the "laugh every now and again" later ones.

Friends was great for the first few seasons... but they should've quit YEARS before they eventually did.

Friends was a great show. It demonstrated the strong friendship between 2 Jewish siblings, a mentally-handicapped Italian man, an outcast woman from upper-society, a heathen hippy woman and a humour-challenged man - who couldn't be pried apart by any means, not even in their pursuit of the American Dream. A dream which we can all aspire to have thanks to freedom and democracy.
