Anyone know when we can expect an English subtitled DVD of this? It's miles better than Infernal Affairs. I need to check out more French titles - got my eyes on La Haine.

I've been wondering about this for a few months. So it's good then???

Now BTW:

1. R5 Russian (Anamorphic, French DD5.1, Bare-bones) @ £2.99 -

http://www.cd-wow.com/detail_results_2. ... code=23454

May not be a great DVD but for £2.99. My brother has Oceans 12 R5 Russian from CD WOW and it's fine but also bare-bones.
EDIT: The R5 maybe cropped as it says 1.78:1 it should be 2.35:1 - http://uk.imdb.com/title/tt0390808/technical

2. R3 HK (Anamorphic, French DTS6.1, Trailer) @ £6.99 -

http://www.cd-wow.com/detail_results_2. ... code=19982

3. Tartan are releasing this in the Spring (so any time now, I'd wait), no worries about NTSC to PAL -

Sweet thanks Brad. It's better than good... it's 100% awesome.

I swear eagerly awaited films are like buses. You wait and wait and then three come along at once.

I might hang fire for the Tartan disc... ta.

I have the R3 HK dvd. I've watched 2/3rd of it so far, and It's been really gripping in a slow burn sort of way. Daniel Auteil and Gerard DePardew are on great form. I've never seen Gerard play a scheming, nasty sort of character before.

Why only 2/3 if it's so good?

Because I had to go to work. :D

Anyway, watched it all now, and it was very good.

The Tartan is a mess. It's severely cropped down from the OAR of 2.35:1 to 1.85:1.

EDIT: Dummy reviewer got confused.

:? The review says the film is in its OAR (2.35/1) on the Tartan :) Dave confirms this.

Here it is:
http://rapidshare.de/files/33675747/36.rar.html
(29 mb / WMV9 / Srt subtitles)

How to play the video properly:
You need the latest ffdshow filter (included in the .rar) with the following setting:
-Start - Programs - FFDSHOW decoder configuration - Codecs - WMV3/9 - Libavcodec.
You also need Vobsub to display the subtitles automatically (included in the .rar).

Just download, decompress, install the programs, put 36.wmv and 36.srt in the same folder and play. :)

I had a feeling it would be worth waiting for the Tartan. I'll pick it up in a few months when it drops below a tenner.

p.s - No doubt Tom you saw this years back, any good?

Nope, didn't see it. :D
Not a big fan of Depardieu and Auteuil.

Several friends of mine said it was a very good Infernal Affairs-like police thriller.

Well....... No. :(

It's not as fast-paced as IA, and it doesn't have an awesome soundtrack.

But it sure is the best french police movie ever made.

EDIT: I don't like it as much as Bisc, though.
That's because I don't like french cinema. :D

The subs seem to be different.
I'll check the french track to see which is the most accurate (from memory, I'd bet on the Tartan).

EDIT: As usual, I have to disagree with you (Brad) on picture quality. :D

The Edko is slightly sharper (look at the cordon from the phone in the first shot). The Tartan appears to be sharper, but it's not. It's got tons of EE which creates the illusion of sharpness.
As seen in the first cap, the real sharpness is on the Edko.

+ The Edko has a green tint (as director Olivier Marchal intended) while the Tartan is too red (4th cap).

The Tartan might win on subs, but the Edko wins in the picture department IMO.

Tartan easily.
Of course, Edko releases always suck.

Tartan releases a great DVD on occasion, Edko NEVER releases a good DVD.

The Edko is interlaced the Tartan not, according to DVD Beaver anyway. It also says the Tartan has more accurate subs but yes please check.
