Park Chan-wook's current and next projects...

Post by thelostdragon »

Whoa, this guy is really busy.

He is currently shooting "I am a Cyborg" which is about a nurse who believes she is a robot. She falls in love with a patient which is all that has leaked out so far.

After that come two projects with Song Kang-ho. The first one is "Evil Live". Read the title in reverse form and you get the same title. According to Park, this is his vampire film and what he shot for his "Three" segment "Cut" was an actual shoot for this film. So the footage that is shot by the camera we see in the short film "Cut" will be used for the film "Evil Live". The release date is set for 2007.

The film project after that is called "Bakjwi" and is set for a 2008 release. All we know so far is that Park Chan-wook is directing and Song Kang-ho takes the lead role again.

Song Kang-ho is a great actor and he must be Park's favourite actor. He appeared in many of Park's films, like "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" and had one of the leading roles in JSA and SfMV. If you look at the extras of "OldBoy", you can see him sitting around on the set, watching them shoot the film, although he doesn't even appear in it. So I guess he and Park have a close friendship. Can't wait to see the two upcoming films.

Thanks for the news LD. Some interesting scoops there. Song Kang-ho is arguably my favourite Korean actor, full stop. He's a comedian, sentimentalist and raging lunatic all rolled into one.

The actual title should be: "I'm a cyborg but it's OK."
The main actor should be Jeong Ji-Hun (aka RAIN) and the cyborg should be played by Kang Hye-Jeong (Mido from OldBoy).

The international title could be "Cyborg Girl" (it will probably change, though).
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Was reported awhile back that Kang Hye-Jeong pulled out of the role and was being replaced by Im Soo-jung (A Tale of Two Sisters). Not sure what the latest on this is, though. I'll have to check later tonight.

Okay, had a look around and can't find an exact English translation, but looks like the switch over to Im Soo-jung was made in early February. She's now listed on imdb as Rain's co-star. The website nkino has the info if you can read Korean characters. :D

Park Chan-wook starts shooting movie 'Cyborg' starring Bi
SEOUL, March 29 (Yonhap) -- South Korean director Park Chan-wook started shooting scenes for "I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK," in the southern port city of Busan on Wednesday with singer Bi as its male lead, the film promoter said.

"Cyborg" has drawn attention with the combination of the star director of "Old Boy" and "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" and the Asian heartthrob, also known by his English name Rain, who performed in the Madison Square Garden in New York last month.
