Do you re-watch films?

Post by BiscLimpkit »

I only ever seem to watch a movie once. The reason being that I'm trying to sit through as many films as possible, with preference to titles that are considered classics.

After the film has been watched... I never seem to watch it again... Am I a moron?

There have been exceptions though. I saw Fight Club a few times recently and I'm thinking about giving Ichi a spin again.

I think I seen more that half of dvds I own (about 300) more than once. Then there's movies that I've seen so many times I've lost the count: Police Story, Die Hard 2 (at least 5 times) Azumi, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, The Killer (7-9 times), Raider of the Lost Ark (more than 20 times). Sometimes I have even watched the same film twice during one day: Evil Dead 2 (two hour break), Shinobi - Heart Under Blade (20 min break) and Oldboy (0 min break, started as soon as the closing credits ended).

I can watch films over and over If I really like the film. If the films are really crap, then I won't watch them more than once, obviously.

Saying that some films are so crap, you cannot beleve how bad they are so you have to watch them again :D House of the Dead I am still stunned by a year later and may have t put it on again to see if I was in shock or not.

Guess I'm in the minority. I should have stated that I used to rewatch films a lot when I was younger but don't do it anymore.

Hung that's quite an impressive record... especially watching the same movie again - back to back!

Having kids, I've watched so many children's films repeatedly, that at one point I even found great humor in the site 101 Things to Do with a Dead Totoro: http://www.jurai.net/~bates/dead-totoro/

Happy to say that I got past that, though. ;) Totoros have been back on my most loved creatures list for a long time now. I wake up to my Totoro alarm clock every day and even have a Totoro wristwatch!

I'd like to say yes but in reality I'm the same and after one it's on to the next.

I've watched some films more than once. It does make you wonder why I buy DVDs.

I don't like to watch the same film more than once within a short period of time (it would have to be 6 month gap at least). Even then it would only be a film I liked enough to buy or something I saw a long time before and am reassessing.

Absolutely. If i like the film, i can still enjoy it no matter how many times i've seen it. That's why i love collecting dvds. I almost never watch the same movie back to back, though.

I mostly re-watch films, when I feel I have to show them to other people, which is when I love to sit through them again the most.

There are other films though I have watched uncountable times on my own. These would be:

- Invincible Armour
- Battle Royale
- Chingu (Friend)
- Life of Brian
- OldBoy
- The original Star Wars-series
- Last Samurai
- The Killer
- Almost all Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee-films

In answer to the question, yes I do re-watch films, but no longer at the same frequency as I did when I was younger (and had more time). I've watched Hard-Boiled, Face/Off and The Killer more times than I can remember.
Nowadays, I tend to watch scenes from films, rather than the whole film itself, which sounds strange, but it's a method I use to wean myself off the addiction of DVDs :)

That's what I do a lot, too. I also watch well-made trailers (like a lot of HKL/PA ones) in order to get a bit inspired for my own work. For example, when I'm working on a storyboard, I check out all sort of films in order to get the camera angle right.

I also play certain scenes to friends sometimes which makes them want to watch the respective film. Some of them wouldn't watch an Asian fim voluntarily.

I've done that to others. I show them what could almost be called a highlight reel. Just select scenes to make 'em wanna watch the whole thing. Usually works :)

the best part about rewatching movies is when you watch horror movies with other people, and they get the crap scared out of them and you can sitthere laughing at them like "haha i knew that was coming"

i'm doing it with my mom right now while she watches hide and seek, with all the jumpy parts

The thing about horror movies these days (actually all horror films) is that 90% of the time you KNOW exactly what is going to happen to scare you..yet it still startles you (well, me at least), and filmmakers always use the same cheap tactics to do it.

Even watching something i've already seen, i'm often startled by the cheap jump tactics almost just as much. Especially with loud 5.1

I've a friend who fast forwards horror films to the scary bits, so that he's more prepared. He's a bigger wuss than me.

hehe, well i thought atleast hide and seek had a good ending. something you didnt quite expect. the alternative endings were interesting too.

mom didnt get it tho haha that was fun explaining that...why do people ask you whats happening in a movie when they dont want to know, and they know you wont tell them?! thats annoying as someone telling you what happens

I also re-watch films as so often times you realise more stuff. Like "Memento" or "OldBoy" which I definitely had to watch a couple of times to fully understand them.

Recon, which movie is the one in your signature from?
