R2 Firefly boxset question - native PAL transfers?

Post by EvaUnit02 »

Are the transfers on the R2 Firefly boxset native-PAL or NTSC-PAL conversions?
Thanks.

I was planning on blind-buying it (the price is good), but am so sure now since hearing that the most recent R2 Simpsons boxset featured NTSC-PAL conversions.

Uhm, Simpsons? Wouldn't the Simpsons be 30 fps NTSC originally as opposed to 24 fps film?

Yeah, I don't care about the Simpsons. It's on telly every day.

Are the transfers on R2 boxset of Firefly native-PAL or NTSC-PAL? Thanks.

Well I don't know really. Just figured it would be since it's a film. Whereas Simpsons (a TV show) would be NTSC-PAL since it's not a film. :D

Anyone with the disc wanna pipe in?

Firefly is a TV series BTW.

I'm sure that Romero prolly has it, since he's a Joss Whedon fan.

I have the Australian region 4 box-set of Firefly which is PAL but I'm not really sure what you're asking. Obviously Firefly was originally NTSC which I'm sure you already knew.

I think Eva wants to know if its' a film to PAL transfer (so no ghosting) or whether they just used the NTSC masters and converted them to PAL.. right?

That's exactly what I'm after.

I can confirm that the R4 is a progressive anamorphic PAL transfer as I watched on loan from a friend. Still, I didn't think the image quality was great. It was a bit too noisy for my liking and I swear there was even a little image ghosting (not NTSC-PAL type tho) on one episode "Heart of Gold". So there's definitely room for improvement but I haven't seen any others for comparison. I'd be interested to hear feedback about other versions too.

Cheers Memetic. Finally got the answer I wanted, I'll order the R2UK boxset tomorrow or the day after (as soon as I get my new credit card from the bank). It's only ~$40NZD, whereas the cheapest the R4 in NZ is $75NZD.

Uhm yeah. I thought about the SERENITY movie :D Still, I believe most/many live action TV series are done with (digital) film equipment these days - and thus produced in 24 fps.
