How come Terminator gets 2 discs but T2/T3 only get 1 disc?? :? Its' just a repackaging of the old discs - whats the point?

Money!

Still for those who aren't really interested in extras they'll like it.

It's a Sony release I'm betting they only bothered to pay for the films. They already own the Terminator extras.

Why cant they just shove the original mono on T1 ? How hard can that be ? the 5.1 track is rubbish.

:D - You'd think it was hard.

Agreed. I'd like DD5.1, DTS and Mono. I've not heard the Mono to compare but would probably stick to the 5.1.

Uhm except they did the MediaAsia thingy and changed the soundtrack. Most specifically Arnies .45/.50 gun which suddenly sounds like a silenced 9mm. There's probably more examples but for any fan of the film that scene really stood out.
So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Watch the film with the original mono Brad. But probably won't since you don't give a shit about original artistic intention - eg you condone the forced animal cruelty cuts on R2UK releases.

That totally ruined the scenes where he was assassinating the fake Sarah Connors's at the start of the film, the loud "BAM BAM" foleys replaced with pitiful silenced blasts that sounded like a spring-loaded toy.

Sony released the 2-discer of T3 in R2/R4 territories, you'd think that they'd own the extras for the film in those territories.

Obviously they're sub-licencing T2 from Momentum, since they hold the licence to the Studio Canal masters in the UK.

I'm happy with my R3 T1 SE (which is basically the R1 on two discs rather than double-sided garbage), R1 T2 UE and R2UK T3 SE. But T1&2 (and Lawrence of Arabia) will definately be the first films I buy on a HD disc format (prolly blu-ray - still reckon it's a dumb name).

True :( but tbh I love the new surround effects they really improve the film :D . If I could have a new remix without the new foley effects I'd be very happy but I can't so I'll live with the new effects (which tbh I can't notice) to get the new surrounds.

I'd have to buy the otherwise identical R1 to do that.

Oi I've never said that and get your fucking facts straight. I'm getting really peeved at people bitching just because I have a different set of ideas on what is important.

I've never condoned the changes in HOFD. What I did say was weighing up the pros and cons of the UK R2 vs. HK R3 SE I prefer the UK R2. Some minor cuts (cuts yes but they are minor, in length and effect on the film) vs. some very good extras I decided to keep the UK R2.

If the cuts had been longer I'd have kept my HK R3. I'm going for The Isle uncut for this reason over the already out and otherwise decent Tartan UK R2.

I like to weigh up each DVD against each other and don't immediately say it's cut so it loses.

what a pointless release. You could just as easily Pickup all three double disc sets and have some change to buy another DVD for the same money as this box-set.

It's nice to have a box-set of a particular film franchise but for this release you're paying over the odds for a cardboard box.

after discount it'll be a good buy for people who for whatever reason haven't bought the films and aren't arsed about extras.it'sa no brainer for sony who have probably just repackaged surplus stock of the old releases.

Uhm, but no. It's not identical. The R2 has "electronic" intro text - whereas the R1 has the original hard printed green futuristic-looking-font intro text. DVD subs have never been a good replacement for onscreen text. It just looks awfull. (And even worse when they forget to add'em like with the RAMBO TRILOGY).

I knew someone was going to bring that up. Don't forget the extras are slightly different too.

Yeah fair enough it's mostly identical. My point not enough to warrant an upgrade.

p.s - The new Terminator UK R2 UE has the "original hard printed" text. I'm going to upgrade to this when it's under a tenner I've want Terminator DTS ever since the Japanese UE was released all those years ago.

I picked up the Japanese ultimate edition because I never dreamt they would replace the two disc special edition. I kind of wish I had waited now but there's no way to know which DVDs are going to get re-released with any certainty.

In your opinion how much better (if at all) is the DTS to the DD5.1?

I'd like to say much better seeing as it cost me the better part of £30 but after re-evaluating last night the difference is very small. Still considering the films made in 1984 it is a decent surround-sound mix.
