The First Emperor

Post by grim_tales »

On Channel 4 on Thursday at 9pm. Its' a drama-documentary about the Emperor of Qin and how he unified China and became China's first Emperor and stuff (I believe its' the same guy as in Hero).
Documentary which, through exclusive access to new archaeological finds, reveals the secrets of the first emperor of China Qin Shihuang, one of the most powerful men who ever lived. The mystery centres on the emperor's vast tomb, which was rumoured to be surrounded by a vast model of his world, including rivers of flowing mercury.
Sounds like it will be in Mandarin as well (or it bloody well should be). Could be quite interesting :)

I think Richard Ng even has a role in it! (as a Chief Minister). :D

Yeah I watched it a bit but turned it off halway through. Thought it was quite boring. Really hoped it would be more about real samurai, and maybe using clips of movies and facts and fiction etc etc. Here it was just a skinny white snobby british guy just giving a general impression of samurai life and a bit of talk about the swords. Certainly not very interesting.

Well to re-iterate, I thought what I saw was OK (like you, I only saw about 40 mins of it, I was tired).

Did anyone see this? :) I rhought it was OK, interesting and the drama parts were quite well done (although the dialogue felt rather clunky). The English voice acting didnt help. It should really have been in Mandarin IMO. Also the programme kept on spelling Qin "Chin", as if to say the name "China" came from that.
His great achievements in unifying China were the main focus (and did he really have a life size map of China in his tomb with flowing mercury etc?) but he was also very cruel and ruthless, something the movie Hero chose to ignore.
