Michael Wong helps air cadets... LOL!

Post by thelostdragon »

As we talked about "Beast Cops" in the other thread, I was curious about what Michael Wong is up to these days. LOOOOL!

Wong wings it with the cadets

Actor Michael Wong Man-tak, attending the Style awards with his wife Janet Ma Sze-wai, was enthusiastic about his new project.

Skilled at flying helicopters, the action man helped create a programme to show youngsters in Hong Kong's Air Cadet Corp what it's really like to fly. Operation Flying Eagle, which has just started, will see Wong take 32 cadets aged between 11 and 21 on flights every weekend, taking off from the Peninsula Hotel's roof.

"I'll be able to fly about 600 kids this year," Wong said. "A few years back, I asked one of the kids in the corp if they get to fly much and he said no. So I met the programme's administrator and said, `Look, I fly regularly and I can take some kids'. It's not just a joyride, they get some knowledge. Some may become pilots, too."

LOL! I hope his flying skills aren't as good as his acting skills.

:D

(Although I'll have to say he's pretty much underrated.)

That's a nice thing to do by him. I've often heard Michael Wong has a pretty good personality. Too bad his acting sucks. Big Time. And no, it is NOT underrated. That would be mathematically impossible: You cant rate this guy low enough! :)
He makes Chuck Norris look like an oscar-contender.

I really enjoyed his acting in "Theft under the Sun" and "Beast Cops".

Although Michael Wong rarely has his moments as an actor... he gets by with a certain style and charisma. Always nice to see someone use their celebrity for a good cause.

Havent seen Theft under the Sun, but I often hear Wong is quite good in Beast Cops, and I've seen that one, and I gotta say.... he aint good in that. In fact, he's the worst thing in the whole movie. It's a very good movie, but he brings the quality down. Perhaps people are misleaded by him not having a huge role in the movie, or just the sheer quality of the flick make them neglect the awfullness of his acting, but it's not good.
It doesnt totally ruin the movie, so that's perhaps a reason people think he's ok in it... but I guess that has more to do with the quality of the movie and the rest of the cast, then with Wong himself.

Patrick Tam and Anthony Wong are very good in it, though...

You mean like that crock of shit Live-8? That would've been more fruitful if they just reached into their vast bank accounts and just donated instead of having a massive concert.

Here's an extract from South Park S9E2: "Die Hippie, Die":-
Stan: Uh, excuse me. Excuse me, can I have your attention please? What are we doing? [the crowd quiets down] It's been nine days! Doesn't it seem like we should accomplish something?
A hippie: We're using the power of rock and roll to change the world! Woo! [the crowd cheers]
Stan: Maybe instead of complaining about corporations being selfish, we should lookt at ourselves. I mean, is there anything more selfish than doing nothing but getting high and listening to music all day long?
Singer: He's right. It's time for all of us to focus our energy and get this hippie jam into full swing.
[the band starts up again. They missed his point entirely. Stan just turns right and walks away]

Nope, I didn't mean that. Bunch of posers that Live-8 crowd. I'd hardly put what Michael Wong's doing in that category of self-righteous self-promotion.

That "crock of shit" and "massive concert" Live 8 wasn't really about raising money but mainly about raising awareness. You have to have to hand it to Geldof for all the charity work he has done (IMHO).
Sorry if I'm not as cynical as you Mark ;) Anyway back on topic...
