I like Tokyo Raiders, I really do. My question is: will I like this too?

LOL, if you thought the American-Voice-Over-man was too much, wait until you have seen this trailer. :D

I've just ordered the HK DVD of this on impulse. No point in waiting for the HKL really. I'd have ordered Silver Hawk as well, but CD Wow no longer stock it.

"Shu Qi"

Is't her name pronounced something like "SHOO KAY" in Cantonese, or is it "SHOO KEY" in Mandarin? :?

Not really, remember that Bey has stopped working for HKL on commentaries since his move to working for Harvey Weinstein (sp?).

Spoken:
Cantonese = Shoe Kay.
Mandarin = Shoe Chee.

This doesn't take into account accents of course. But the above is how a Gwailo would pronounce them.

Written:
Cantonese: Shu Kei
Mainland: Shu Qi
Taiwanese: Hsu Chi

What voiceover man said is probably closer to the Mandarin pronounciation.

IronMonkey, I think LD realises Bey has stopped working with HKL but it still seems odd not to see him there, since has been working with them for so long and his commentaries were really part of HKL DVDs.

I have not watched Tokyo Raiders. I have however seen Seoul Raiders. I felt it was ok but I doubt I'd watch it again, ever.

Silver Hawk... once again not the greatest of films. It's made for kids, with its power rangers style fighting, political correctness etc. (Still managed to get a 15 rating though).

However like with most Jingle Ma titles, it does showcase some fine cinematography and music, which is where his strengths lie. See his masterpiece "Fly Me to Polaris" - arguably the best film of 1999.

Yeah, I'm really disappointed we won't be hearing anymore of Bey. I would have more respect for him if he just said 'I'm burnt out' or 'I don't feel like doing a track fo every new film'. But to cease full stop so he can work for the devil, er, Harvey Weinerstein, is frankly the pits. What surprises me is that HKL haven't yet found - or at least that's how it appears - someone to replace him.

I'm available if they need me... 8)

It's not that. He did commentaries while working for the Weinsteins. But when Brian White was more or less thrown out of HKL, Bey disagreed to continue providing commentaries. He says that HKL won't be the same without Brian.

Ah, now THAT I didn't know. So Bey has had a falling out of sorts with HKL. Interesting. Do you know why Brian White left - or where he's gone?

I thought Brian White was the man behind HKL... how could he be practically thrown out?

Because HKL is a part of the Contender Group.

The chiefs at Contender Group are of the opinion that an independant HKL section is not necessary. They offered Brian other positions, but he wasn't interested in any of these so he decided to resign.

Is this as bad as I'm hearing? I've not seen Tokyo Raiders. I hear it's even worse, right?

It's the only title at Play I'm mildly interested in that's much more expensive elsewhere (the rest I'd be saving whopping £1).

LOL at your signature :D

Cheers, pity not even I guess Shu Qui can save this one.

I'm stumped to what to get at Play. I can only come up with Los Debutantes and that's £5.89 at Sendit vs. Play for £4.99 (with £1 voucher).

A massive 90p saving! I've got until Thursday night (Friday day is too risky).

Thanks. :D

Get that - it's a great film. Worth it for the cover alone.

I also recommend you buy some whipped cream before watching this movie.

I love "Tokyo Raiders". Lots of fun and Ekin Cheng was good in this, too.
