I have got the tin set and love it :D. It got some cools extra like post cards which has what the poster was for King Kong. The dvd is simply the 2 disk set and it has got some really good extras. The actual tin is very, very good, one of the better tin set i have seen.

I saw the 2005 remake last night and though it was fantastic (8 out of 10). I now really want to check out the original, but which version?

Is this cheap as chips version any good? It looks to be a cheap UK R2 bare-bones release. -

http://www.cd-wow.com/detail_results_2. ... code=23288

Questions please:

* Is there no UK R2 SE yet?
* I hear Universal have the UK rights and it's not going to be as good as WB's R1 offering?
* I hear the R1 SE 2 Disc Tin has more extras than the R1 SE 2 Disc Standard is that right?

I've checked out the DVD Beaver comparison and the quality leap on the R1 SE is staggering so I only want that version but £11.98 (DVD Pacific) is to much; I'll wait.

I cannot understand why anyone thinks the 30's version is good at all, the acting is shockingly bad and so are the effects, its nostalgia yes, but doesnt make it a good film at all. Even Kong looks like a fury turd, still some people love it and good for them, but I definatly dont.

Just watch it on TV, its on this week. I saw the new one last night and thats a good film, the origanal isnt for me.

In the US Warner Bros have the rights to all RKO films hence the nice R1 box set they're doing.

In the UK its Universal who have rights to King Kong, but since they're not releasing either Son of Kong or Mighty Joe Young, I would assume they don't have those other RKO rights. Or maybe they do and just can't be arsed putting them out? Universal UK sucks anyways so I wouldn't be surprised...

Maybe so according to the Kong 30's fans, but its not a good film for me and many others, hell its crap by todays standards the acting alone makes me want to never even see a clip from it ever again even, they just couldnt act at all back in them days and I cannot say many films from that era I like much, but this one is just ugly to look at as them effetcs are truley abysmal :( yes its classic for its time and may have been amazing back then, but now its just awful to me in every single way its like some student play.

I am not trying to be shit about it, I just cannot see why people love it at all :) I wouldnt even mention it but people on forums are going a bit over the top saying its one of the greatest film ever made.

I'm not sure that's true. It was a different era and a different way of acting.

Yup and I never have and probiby never will get that way of acting as I cannot even say I own any oldies from them gone eras :( still I ussually keep quiet about old films I dont like as it does make some people get very angry and some forums will ban you if you say a classic is a poor film, or you just dont like it, so at least I can say things like that on here and know people wont go totally mentalist.

Some people just are ignorant fools and should let others say what they want, if anyone says any film I like is bad I dont care, It doesnt hurt me, they can say it but I dont get angry and slag them off like others so on many forums, its quite sad really :)

Everyones tatstes are different and if say for instance saltysam loves the film good for him, at least he didnt get nasty and go mental like many others on other forums with a lot less brains and manners :D

Yep I have very little modding to do and it's how it should be, the same goes for Mordib.

To true some people can't "agree to disagree", it is sad.

Do you like Metropolis, M or Casablanca? (all yet to see).

Sadly not, I can remember trying to watch M and Metropolis and really didnt like them two films :( I think the earliest films I own are maybe early 50's Samurai films from Japan where I think the old style of acting was easier to get hold of as I have no idea how they really spoke or acted, americans films just seem not real to me in older films and I find it hard to get to grips with them older films.

Still The comedys like Laurel and Hardy and the Marx Bros are fun as they are not exactly serious and I take them for comedy sakes. Or The Wizard of Oz, and films which are not exactly trying to be very real I can get away with, its the more serious toned ones which I cannot get away with and really I kind of avoid a lot of older films now.

What's the concensus is the 1933 version any good?

I ask as I want to see it but not enough to pay for the SE and considering you can get an older single disc release for £3.99 (after vouchers) from CD WOW it looks tempting?

I realise all versions except the SE are ropey but for £3.99???
