This doesnt bother me that much as I'm happy with my IVL set (even though the theatrical subs are annoying). Anyone know what company is releasing this?

I'll bet you anything you like the PQ won't be nearly as good as IVL's disc - remember that supposed "SE" of ABT from a couple of years back which just put a few cack extras on Disc 2 and gave us the International print with selectable soundtracks (English/Cantonese).

Hmm.. going by their recent track record I would expect 5.1/DTS then and at least an anamorphic transfer.. maybe they did a deal with IVL?

MIA own the rights to this and this will be their third UK release. They better get it right this time. Play are the only company listing this.

I'm happy with my IVL box set too. I also have AB's ABT + ABT2 as well. Assuming it is decent it would be good if HKL (when they get around to releasing it) could get some deal with MIA to release a box set.

p.s - The extras on the current 2 Disc SE aren't cack Grim they're the best yet. It's just the DVD/Film disc is so cack.

The IVL disc is very grainy but I'd be surprised if MIA can do better.

Isn't it supposed to be grainy? Considering the IVL is froma HD master I'd be surprised as well if the MIA was better. This after all, a near 20 year old HK film we're talking about.

What were the extras then Brad? To me, they didnt seem very impressive and could have easily fitted on one disc with the movie.

It's not supposed to be that grainy.

The Shaw Bros films of the 1960's blow it away in terms of quality.

I don't see age has anything to do with it.

Didn't HK filmstock take a nosedive in quality in the 80's. The 60's films look a lot less grainy and more colourful.

BTW, wasn't there a frame problem with the Fortune Star?

You might be right about the filmstock. But the IVL of ABT is seriously grainy. That isn't intentional. The DVD does frame skip. I skimmed a few bits and didn't find it a problem, although a really obvious example is when Emily Chu smashes Tsui Hark's car window after her disasterous rehearsal.

Is Peace Hotel any good? AFAIK currently only the HK Remastered DVD is any good, right?

Regarding ABT: Unless this turns out to be A+ I won't bother. It needs to be as good as the IVL + Decent extras. If it turns out the AV is better but it's bare-bones then I'll probably not bother as I'm pretty much happy with the IVL AV wise.

The IVL is not hard to top. I rather watch my old Deltamac version, because of one issue we discussed in an earlier thread:

I thought it was good, but that's just me. The remastered DVD is missing the gunfight which can only be found in the original Mei Ah release - the one I have. It's not cut as such as the scene wasn't in the theatrical release either, but it was obviously put back for video.

Just need to wait for the reviews to come in... I found the IVL to be grainy as hell.
