My worry is that innocents might be tortured and confess to something they didn't do. I couldn't care less if actual terrorists were subjected to this treatment, but how do you know unless the initial evidence is overwhelming.

Well... it's already known that when the USA were looking for taliban-members, ALOT of innocent people were framed by afghani-bastards, telling the americans they were taliban. So if one afghan guy didnt like a certain guy, he'd just go to the americans, collect some money for ratting out a 'taliban' guy, and the innocent guy was arrested (if he was lucky enough not to get shot I guess) and shipped off to Quantanamo Bay, where the americans could interrogate him ...
So I have HUGE doubts that these tactics are only being used on REAL terrorists...
Either way though, torture is just a way to hurt people, cause testomonies from people that confess to stuff while being tortured, arent really the most reliable source of information...
Not to mention we pretend to be civilised, so we just shouldnt do it, morally-wise.

tori find it all just a perfect example of why the moral world we yearn for will never exist. sure there are many individuals that are truly good and moral people, but then there will always be many more who are not, who quite simply more interested in getting power oand wealth for themselves irrespective of the suffering they may have to cause to do it. these people cannot be stopped by words or any other humane methods, and we cannot use inhumane methods or we would be no better than they are, its catch 22.

It's a fact that many innocent people have been in Guantanamo Bay. A friend of my father's cousin was sent to Guantanamo. He was supplying goods for civilian victims in Herat and was then captured with one of his partners by US forces.
He was locked up in Guantanamo Bay for two weeks. Although he was not tortured, the fuckers didn't even pay his flight back to Jordan. He told us that at night, he sometimes couldn't sleep, because people from the close-by cells were screaming as if they were in dying pain.
