help me soup up my pea sea....

Post by Mordib »

well i must confess there have been a couple of threads here that have impressed me in peoples calm appoach to advising computer kit so i have my own challenge for you -

I was going to buy myself an entirely new system but have managed to talk myself out of it (im quite proud of the fact actually :P). the compromise I offered myself was that I would get a new motherboard/cpu/memory combo.

minimum requirements -

-must have at least 2 sata connections
-the cpu this time needs to be around the 3ghz mark at least (i quite fancy a low end intel 820/830 dual cpu combo)
-1gb of ram (at least...of course)
-cpu for fan... no wait, fan for cpu

i will be plugging my 128mb 9800 pro into it.

-------------------------------------------------------------

I dont want to give a price range as i really dont know enough about all this, there is so much choice now it confuses the hell out of me!!

so, anyone thats willing, what would you pick? any help/advise much appreciated :)

luke

ps. scan is my preferable etailer...

When you upgrade you're gonna get a small problem GFXCard-wise.

If you want a good motherboard that you can upgrade later, you need one with a PCI-Express slot.
I suppose your 9800 is an AGP card.

If you want your system to be upgradable (sp) you need to change your GFX card as well. An ATI X600 or X700 should be good.

As for the MB+CPU+Memory, here's the PC I'll be getting at Christmas (I'm an AMD man):

-Asus A8V-E Deluxe MB.
-Athlon 64 3200+ 2 ghz.(CPU speed doesn't mean squat nowadays. A 2,0 ghz AMD is just as fast as a 3 ghz Pentium 4).
-1 gb Samsung DDR-SDRAM.
-Arctic Cooling Fan.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".
