I missed this one at the New York Asian Film Festival, and i finally got around to watching it on dvd. All i can say is WOW! What an extraordinary piece of cinema! Its almost impossible to even talk about what exactly this movie is about, its the kind of film that you just have to..watch. I was completly hooked for the entire 2:20 running time, i didn't want it to end! The writing, direction and cinematography are all perfect. The movie is just like one big piece of art. The scenes are so simple, yet extremely dynamic. I could go on and on with praise.

If you appreciate exceptionally crafted, artistic dramas..then please do yourself a favor and discover The Taste of Tea. Outstanding film!!

Is that the same as a film called "The Flavor of Green Tea over Rice" or something like that - Kurosawa famously said that "Japanese films tend to be rather bland in flavour, like green tea over rice"

lol I don't sleep much these days, its awful. Thankfully, most of the time i only work during the afternoon and evenings. Even if i do go to bed early, i still get up at least once during the night to let the dogs out etc.. so i'll usually go online for a little while, or watch a movie

no, that is a different movie. This particular movie may seem bland to some at first, but inside its so full of flavor that i don't see how it could possibly be discribed that way.

The Taste of Tea (Cha no aji) is a new film from last year.

OK, thanks Reading some of the book Across The Nightingale Floor (set in medieval Japan) has made to want to more Japanese Lone Wolf and Cub/Kurosawa movies

Broken Flowers - 4/5

I quite liked it. The only other title I've seen by the same director is Coffee and Cigarettes. It's evident that Jarmusch can capture ordinary conversations really well. I don't think the film's about solving a mystery; it's more to do with highlighting options in Don Johnstone's life. I particularly liked the closing shot. Intelligent stuff from Mr Jarmusch.

House of Harmony - Part 1 - 3/5
TV movie based on the novel by Barbara Wood. Maggie Q has the leading role and it's good to see her drama side for a change.
Cheng Pei-pei is also in it.

Saw II - 3/5
Good sequel, better movie overall then the first one. Like the original, its nothing really special.. but creative writing and some neat twists make it well worth seeing.

Cool I quite liked the first one.

Looking forward to Saw II.

Office Space - 4/5
One of my favorite comedies ever. The humor is this film never gets old, and its even better if you can relate to it personally. (which so many people, including myself can)

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith - 3.5/5
Just finished watching it on dvd, and i have to say that i enjoyed it more then the first viewing in the theater. Still should not be spoken in the same sentence as the original trilogy...but MUCH better then the other two recent Star Wars films (which are not worthy of that title).

Horrific dialog and acting by the leads really takes alot out of the film, IMO. Mcgregor and Portman are decent enough actors, but George's shitty writing ruins their potentially excellent performances. Christensen would be terrible either way.

The best things about the movie are the fact that the story does indeed fit into place perfectly, the amazing visual effects, Ian McDiarmid, and the music. Everything else is almost as bad as the other two films.

As far as i'm concerned, true Star Wars died after 1983.

...that is my favourite star wars film...

The Marv segment was the best, and the others couldn't live up to it.

Batman Begins 4/5

Awesome prequel. I didn't really have a problem with either half of the film. I know some say the 2nd half runs out a steam a little or something. What was all the (negativity-wise) fuss about the fight scenes? I thought they were fine in the context of the film and characters (super quick warriors). Fantastic cinematography, and Bale is a very good Bruce Wayne. I think Burton's Batman and this one are on the same level.

Mr and Mrs Smith 3/5

I thought it was fantastic up to the end of the 2/3 of the film. I didn't like the denouement. Electrifying chemistry between Bradley and Angie. The first 2/3 reminded a lot of the movie The War of the Roses. Great fun but unsatisfying ending.

The Fly (1986) 3/5

Be Afraid. Be Very Afraid......of Jeff Goldblum's mullet-cum-perm in this movie!

This was my Halloween film of choice. Sadly, although still a very good horror with tragic overtones, the impact has diminished somewhat, whereas, for example, JC's The Thing is still as effective as ever. The Fly scared the living shit out of me when I was a kid. Having said that, there are still certain scenes which had me cringing (Goldblum's barnet aside). The film does suffer from "man in a rubber suit" effect though. You would also think that Brundle's apartment would be more "quarantine friendly."

Kung Pow: Enter The Fist - 1/5

Oh dear... mostly incredibly stupid and silly, with supposed ironic narration, odd sounds and silly voices BUT I must say I did find it quite funny in places Thats probably *because* it was so silly though.

Great B-movie horror comedy! Lots of fun!

BTW, I think the HK movie Steve Oderderk (sp?) inserted himself into was "Tiger and Crane Fists" (1976) directed by Jimmy Wang Yu with the fights done by Lau Kar Wing. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The dubbing is ridiculous - in one scene (this is in old China remember) Oderderk goes into a store and the subtitles come up as "Give me all your pringles!"

I found this very funny. Although you're right, it's a pretty stupid movie.

Enjoyable anyway I think.

Loved the fight with the cow though

A Moment to Remember (Director's Cut) - 4.5/5
This film is really awesome. Without a doubt the best romance drama i've seen out of Korea so far. I enjoyed it even more the 2nd viewing. Excellent heartwarming (and heartwrenching) story, fantastic acting by the leads and great cinematography. Really a great film, i would highly recommend checking it out.

I have this but it's like 2.5 hours long!! Not that I'm against long films but I rarely have the time to sit down and enjoy them.

A weekend job methinks. Man every film you review is interesting, always open for discussion.

PS: Sorry about offending you earlier on with my ROTS comment but yeah, I only watched my first Star Wars film when I was like 16 and I wasn't particularly blown away. However they did begin to grow on me but I found the new trilogy more enjoyable than the original trilogy.

A Day (Haru) {Korea, 2001} - 4/5
Wow! Great little unknown film about a young, deeply in love couple struggling with successful conception. I found it to be a very touching story with great acting and a beautiful soundtrack. Surprisingly it keeps the melodrama to a minimum, and keeps a realistic tone. Highly recommended for fans of small, but very well made romance dramas.

Its worth it, trust me ..but the two hour theatrical cut is outstanding as well and would get the same rating from me.

lol Don't worry you didn't offend me at all I apologize for being so critical...but i'm somewhat of a fanatic when it comes to the original Star Wars films. I just grew up with them, so they hold a strong sentimental value with me. This may make my opinion on the new ones alittle biased. However, speaking in a completly impartial sense, i honestly do think the originals are far better films then the new ones.
Just my opinion though and ROTS was much better upon the 2nd viewing.

For a Few Dollars More - 4/5

Morriccone's music is amazing in this one. 8) Much like the direction, the music seems to be more refined and relaxed with each Dollars film.

The second film is the best I found it far greater in every way TGTBATU just didnt sit with me as much as Fist and A few More.
