But Western rights have already been bought??? I'm sure that won't be the case.

I've downloaded the movie, but dont have subs for it yet.
I'm normally not a big fan of downloading movies and watching them on my pc, but in this case, with all the different cuts coming out, except a good, uncut and subbed cut, they can go fuck themselfs.

The downloaded version that I have looks OK, although I have a slight feeling it might be a bit cropped on the top... but that's just a hunch...
The chinese subs on it seem to be non-removable.

I think it looks OKish:

Guys, I've been getting several reports that say that the theatrical mainland edition does have english subs.
WTF ?!

Indeed WTF, if its the Mainland version is it in Mandarin? :?

I hope so the original language is Mandarin. With English, Japanese and Cantonese too.

Woo hoo. I hope so.

Any places to buy it? What are your sources? What's the DVD like? If it's true someone should tell CD WOW they're bound to stock it.

What are your sources ?
A reliable french guy on a french forum who said that he bought his disc in China and that it has english subs (he doesn't think it's a bootleg).
I shall investigate...

Yes indeed, you should!

Let it be a good DVD, too.

Bad news. The subtitled DVD is probably a bootleg.

Interesting fact, though:
There's a DVD edition with a 2.35 framing (possibly the mainland edition):

And there's another with a 1.85 open matte framing (possibly the Edko):

Is there anyone out there who could provide any info about this ? :D

Having seen both, I find the 1:85 transfer more pleasing to the eye. But I need to know which DVD has it.

Hey dude! Have you any subs for it or how have you seen it then?

Good .srt subs are already available, LD. :)
They can be found on kloofy.net and your usual p2p networks.

(I think it's OK to talk about custom subs, right Brad ?)

Personally I prefer the 2.35:1 version as I find 2.35:1 more pleasing on the eye but that open matte version looks nice too (extra footage).

What is the proper AR?
Tom2681 wrote:I think it's OK to talk about custom subs, right Brad?
Yep. AFAIK they're not illegal.

So have you seen Fearless then Tom? Any good?

I believe that 2:35 is the proper AR.
Woo-Ping's fights have always looked better in 16/9 though (Tai-Chi Master, Fist of Legend and Wing Chun to name a few).

Yes, very very good. Weak plot but good fights and good acting.
It was also nice to hear Jet speak "normal" mandarin (as opposed to the "classical" mandarin that he was using in Hero).

I didn't know there was a difference?
Tai-Chi Master, Fist of Legend and Wing Chun to name a few.
Aren't those 2.35:1?

Yeasia have got the Thai version up now.

Still no english subs :(, but it is uncut. :)

Might pick this version up anyway since it's limited and uncut (and god alone knows which version will eventually have english subs on it) .....

(saw this on the importforums, can't remember who posted it to credit them ;))

Uncut? Does that mean the Michelle Yeoh-part is included?
