Its not the R rated version, the film was cut to hell before release. They took it away from the director and hacked a shitload of footage out, so no its not good at all for anyone, as the films a mess now after cutting so much out.

Expect an Unrated dvd. Surley you noticed all the cuts? the Sword fight scene was hilariously badly cut to hell.

I didn't know they cut stuff out. You got a source for this? Maybe the sword fight omitted the stabbings (yes I noticed) because the director couldn't be arsed filming it. (Implying it is a lot cheaper I guess).

I did think it was fine the way it was but if there's a more violent version then fair do's min.

Yes it was R rated, but a girly R compared to what it was. no blood or swearing Resident Evil was R rated, but sick as anything blood and guts Dawn of the Dead 2004 was also R rated. R means bugger all if you ask me, never has, neevr wil.

No source, its all over the net what happened. Fox took it upon themselves to help the film along near the end, by forcing reshoots on the director and changing many scenes. Then at the end getting rid of him and getting a new editor to come in and make the film more kid friendly, so not to put off the core audience of tennagers. Fox Fuuks.

But its not the fact its violent that I care about, its the fact they ruined the film. The plot is a mess, esspecially the first 20 minutes of appauling story telling. Hack job at its worse.

lol ok well I'll keep an eye out for an unrated DVD then.

I honestly dont expect the real film to ever apear, we may get a slight more violent version, but not the film the way it was suposed to be made.

It was a hit anyway, so expect part 2 thats for sure

Watched this again last night, many years after I first watched it and it is a damn good film. Good story, acting, production values... and an amazingly hot leading lady in Isabelle Adjani. She could pass easily for early 20s, but was actually in her late 30 (about 37/8 if I remember right) when it was filmed.

Is kinda worrying when you see other films like Subway that she starred in about 10 years prior to making this film and she actually looks younger here!!!

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (USA, 2004) – 4/5
Mostly excellent, but could do with less emphasis on the scifi content. It’s a Kaufman script, yes, but we know the guy can come up with some cool weirdness. Time to move on. Carrey and Winslet on the other hand are absolutely brilliant and the less fuss there is around their characters the better the movie is. But the film’s greatness isn’t only thanks to them, as director Gondry would succeed even better with his next try, The Science of Sleep (in which Bernal and Gainsbourg give equally charming performances).

Magnificent Warriors (Kong Kong, 1987) – 3,5/5
David Chung and Michelle Yeoh team up again in this enjoyable WWII adventure. While Michelle is in top form she is sometimes over shadowed by Chindy Lau (who may not be as talented as a fighter, but is twice as cute). Hong Kong’s best comedian Richard Ng steals every scene he is in (as usual).

Definite proof that Kitano was already crazy long before he shot Takeshi's and Kantoku Banzai ! .

I think you really need to be a fan of japanese slapstick to understand and appreciate this thing, though.
Still, the "Invisible Man -> Ghostbusters" skit alone is worth the trip.

Stupid but fun. Found myself grinning like a moron throughout the entire film.

Matsugane ransha jiken (Japan, 2006) – 4/5
Yamashita directing a mystery thriller after his mainstream hit Linda 3 didn’t sound like a good idea, but I thankfully I was wrong. In fact, Matsugane not even that much of a mystery thriller, it just sounded like one. Dark but slow moving small town comedy would be a better definition. The film isn’t as good as the director’s early works, and feels more slick, probably because of the bigger budget, but still, it’s very recognizable Yamashita. There aren’t really any obvious crowd pleasing elements other than the storyline which however isn’t nearly as bizarre as it could be. Some hippy promo pics and posters that had made me suspicious about the film turned out to be just an ad stunt, none of that stuff is in the film.

Beauty and the Seven Beasts (2007 - Hong-Kong): 0 / 5

Even though he didn't direct it, this is a typical Wong Jing (aka: Crap) film.

Rope Cosmetology (Japan, 1978) – 1/5
Seem like these movies are just not for me. I know some people have been blown away by Rope Cosmetology, but to me it was even more miserable than the previous Naomi Tani film I saw, Flower and Snake. The film begins alright with miss Tani as a sexually frustrated high class lady, which is the role she was born to play. The first candle scene is also decent, and the ending brings a smile to your face. Usually these would be enough to grant a film 1,5/5 rating, but Rope Cosmetology goes so far below the scale during it’s dog scenes (you don’t want to know) that anything above the minimum rating is out of question. I usually force myself to watch movie from beginning to end with no cheating, but this time I had to fast forward about half of the last 25 minutes. There’s sex, sex, sex and people acting like dogs (literally). An obvious classic.

The Depaahted (3.5.5)

Good remake of Infernal Repairs. Sticks closer to the original that I figured it would. I can't believe they stiffed the Chinese writers of an original story credit. A few stylistic flurries here and there, but less flair than I expected from Scorcese who's direction is sometimes workmanlike and less striking in parts than in the HK version, which is tighter and sharper. None of the story changes (though minor) were for the better. The Depaahted is very well-cast and that's the film's main strength. The tacked-on ending was a mistake though... How did Mark Wahlberg, who disappeared for the last half hour, know that Matt Damon was the rat (and thus executed him in revenge)?

Grosse Pointe Blank 3/5

Very good, quirky comedy with John Cusack on top form.

Good Will Hunting 4/5

Fantastic movie, with a great performance by Matt Damon (with a dodgy barnet).

This rarely happens. As I understand it as the story was changed the Chinese writers are no longer "considered" the original writers so get no credit. Alejandro Amenábar didn't get an "Original Story Credit" on Vanilla Sky either.

Martin Scorsese did give them credit at his Oscars speech though.

I was surprised by that too. It's very pedestrian for Scorsese, more's the pity.

I couldn't agree more. The Departed has sloppy editing in places and is definitely too long. Overall like you said it's a solid and respectable remake though, most of the credit has to go to Scorsese. Can you imagine what would've happened if a two bit director was brought on board.

For the most part I agree but as good as Leonardo Decaprio is he's no Tony Leung and Matt Damon isn't remotely as good an actor as Any Lau. The two Chinese actors age gave them much more screen gravitas.

Liked this a bit better 2nd time around,the lack of any standout action sequence lets it down though.too much mtv style flashy editing as well but entertaining enough.very grim in tone as well,no buddy humour in this one.
