EE are bringing out a Kurosawa boxset containing Seven Samurai, Hidden Fortress, Yojimbo, Sanjuro. I've seen their Seven Samurai, Yojimbo and Sanjuro discs - the transfers are top notch, wish they had some extras though (especially historian/biographer commentaries) .

BTW Bradavon:
EE Sanjuro only has DD1.0, no DD5.1 remix. You've listed JSA's aspect ratio as 1.85, the EE disc is 2.20 (OAR 2.35).

I wonder why Sanjuro has no remix? I guess EE realised it was a bit of a waste of time.

* "Ju-on: The Grudge 2" is going rental on the 18th of May.

* "Twilight Samurai" is going rental on the 25th of May. It has the potential to beat the competition! (Extras + English subs wise).

* "Red Beard" is going rental on the 25th of May.

That's all I can find out right now. All are listed as being WS and in the original language but that was a given. In only 7 months we should be able to own these!

Nope, only seen the EE R4's.

I saw their Hidden Fortress disc yesterday. The only extra (aside the trailer) is the George Lucas interview ported over from the Criterion. Another great transfer.

For those who are bothered by this this one is an NTSC to PAL conversion. I don't think the others are but they "could" be.

I'll probably get the Criterion on this one, it's a fair price and also excellent quality.

Yes it has shipped. I ordered on the 22nd, it shipped on the 23rd and I got it today

Brad, could you plz keep listing the rental release dates for EE titles? It might not be a concern to you lot in Britain, but they're those in Australasia (eg me - am I the only one?) who do read this board.

I really hate navigating Flash sites (eg easterneye.com.au).

I do already, so members can see how long titles will take to go retail but good point this isn't a UK only forum.

I just haven't put them in the title page/first post. All the rentals I come across are added as and when I notice them. I'll compile a list of rentals post and bastardise one of my most posts on the main page. There is bound to be a post I can re-edit.

How much was it cut? What was changed? Fingers crossed Premier Asia will do it justice!

I even mentioned it in a thread that 'we', the costumers, want an uncut, original scored/language release of the movie...
Guess they still think martial arts fans cant handle a lil thing called 'plot'.

As I've said before,if there's a scene ina movie I dont like,and I just wanna see the action-scenes, I have a fast forward button so I can skip those scenes myself! i dont need someone else deciding for me what to skip.

I doubt it. Both cases.

Perhaps we'll have to wait 10-20 years befroe we can finally see an uncut, original language/sound version fo Ong-bak, just like some parts of the world had to wait 10-20 years before they could finally see the Bruce Lee movies uncut and original language...

Guess we havent really made much progress at all. Movie-producers are still cultural bastards.

Considering not even HK can do this then I can't see we ever will. Surely there is a Chinese or Taiwanese version with Mandarin and uncut? In the case of Taiwanese it will probably have English subs also.

It's more likely it's what they "want" to hear.

Updated to include information on rental titles for our very own favourite Kiwi! . It only has six titles which I find low and none for April which can't be correct but there you go. It's all I can find out.

Huh I didnt know HK was a PAL country? Do you mean the TV system there is PAL?

I suspect he does. It wouldn't surprise me.

Thailand is another example which is effectively dual. Most releases are PAL but there are also many NTSC DVDs. I suspect both countries have been so long with dual compatible equipment it doesn't really matter.

Mainland China is also another example which is both. AFAIK only Japan (and I thought HK) was is a full NTSC country in the far east.

Yeah the TV system in Hong Kong and China is PAL, not NTSC. The Asian countries that are NTSC are Japan, Taiwan, Phils and Korea. It's all about catering for a pan-Asian market presumably.

I believe it's mainly to cater for the pan-Asian market which largely uses NTSC. The largest component of the pan-Asian market does tend to be Japan, particularly from the perspective of Korea, but I guess it's so important to Hong Kong that it even foregoes local PAL DVD releases.
