You should have seen it in the cinema! my head was going to blow up, the camera gave me serious brain problems (on top of what I already have) I liked it, easy going and not to bad when she has big guns in her hands and violence and stunts are on the screen.

Death Proof - 4,5/5
Very enjoyable first 90 minutes. The last 26 is jaw dropping. Gonna see this again when it comes to my hometown.

Kiki's Delivery Service - 4/5
The second movie I saw in cinema in Helsinki today. Finnish distributors have been having some seriously good ideas lately. Like releasing Totoro, Kiki, and the early Wong Kar Wai films theatrically. Chunking Express opened today but I didn't have time to go see it.

The Virgin Suicides - 3/5
She tried to emulate others too much, it's was painfully obvious. But much of the weakness really does come from the source material, the book isn't much good at all.

House: Season 3 - 2/5
Horrible for the most part. In typical American TV fashion they just repeat everything whilst making no overall plot progress. It has gotten beyond the point of being just ridiculous. it's comically bad without the slightest sense of realism. I finished the series, but I won't watch the next.

Millennium Actress (2001 - Japan - Satoshi Kon): 4 / 5



Satoshi Kon has a very distinctive style that is difficult to appreciate (for me, anyway).
Nevertheless, when you get used to it, it becomes quite entertaining.

Millennium Actress is a good little movie. In terms of animation it's only average but the storyline, editing and characters more than make up for it.

Good film.

Paprika (2006 - Japan - Satoshi Kon): 5 / 5



ZOMFG !

This is as good as anime can get IMO.
Kon has entered Miyazaki and Oshii territory with this film.

Loved both. Will buy both DVDs.

Enjoyed "Millenium Actress", too.

I watched it twice when a friend borrowed it. Tokyo Godfathers might've been even better, I'm not sure...

I just got done watching the Paprika BD, sadly it's MPEG2 not AVC but still gorgeous, a big improvement over the DVD. I give the film a 4/5 personally, it's beautiful, fantastical and cinematic with such incredible music but it doesn't captivate and hold me like Perfect Blue or Millenium Actress do. Rather like Paranoia Agent in that respect, a little too weird and not quite 'tight' enough.

Huge respect for Satoshi Kon (he's my personal favourite anime director).

Jealous that you guys have seen paprika. If I were you, I'd rub it in more (but then I get a kick out of watching films that no one else has).

Pirates of the Caribbean 3 3.5/5

Not enough Depp in this one. His portrayal of Jack Sparrow is what made these films so successfull, so moving the focus about on to other characters as well ruined it. Too surreal when we first see Depp in the film. But what ruined it over all was that the writers and director were clearly taking the whole film too seriously. The first one, especially, and the second one were more fun films, with more focus on the comedy and just having fun action. This one is too serious, trying to get the big epic story across. In that way it is just another big budget film that's nothing special and the original appeal was somewhat gone.

Still enjoyed it though, but not as good as the other 2. Keira wasn't as annoying as I've found her to be in the past, and I thought Bloom was mildly better too.

Commercial fluff but Felix Chong's script is made into entertaining light stuff from Lo Kim-wah. Stephen Fung especially is likeable and the infectious atmos also includes some unexpectedly good action scenes.

Massacre Time 3/5

I don't know how this plays out compared to other genre output but Lucio Fulci's western is a decent little mystery, if not totally riveting come twist-reveal time. Quite bleak and suitably gritty. Comes with the added bonus of a killer theme song!

This is the first time I've seen this uncut. It makes so much more sense now. Thought shredder's opening was class but it's a shame we never got to see him fight more. Also what's with the random time out at the end? Aye quite a funny film too. Dated but sound.

Never seen it....... I was actually thinking more along the lines of Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood and Sleepy Hollow, which represent some of Depp's best work.
