I've only heard negative things about Pirates 3 (until Shen's post). Doesn't matter really, I wouldn't see it anyway. The first film was bad enough.

I thought PIRATES 1 was average, so I stayed away from 2, and apparently 3 is pants, so I won't even bother with a rental.

it wasn't the best of the 3 films, but it wasn't dire either, i must admit i did get slightly bored at one point. the surreal stuff was just like.... wtf. kinda like they were scraping the barrel there. but it wasn't a bad film

Alright me mateys, I just watched Pirates 2 (to refersh my memory).

Personally, I thought that Pirates 1 was the best film in the world (at the time... maybe still is?) but the sequel was fun but disappointing (like the Matrix sequels, Spidey 3 etc). My sister thought that Pirates 3 was weaker than 2... reviews have been largely negative.

I will watch and judge for myself... looks like the Matrix trilogy all over again...

But like Romero says - I won't wank in front of a sheep and judge it for myself.

PS: I know you guys don't have access to a digital screen in your cinema. Well I do, I'm gonna watch Pirates 3 on that.

I bet I'm right about my previous comment. There was not remotely enough decent/worth while footage in Matrix 2/3 to make two films but they did it anyway. To a large extent this was a problem on Kill Bill 1/2 too.

I thought Pirates 1 was brilliant. Loved it all, and Depp's performance was brilliant too and wasn't just a little fun thing for 20 mins for me. Pirates 2 was really good too, but it did seem they were just cashing in on success of the first by thinking bigger=better, which it rarely does. Really looking forward to part 3. Like Romero, don't care if other people slate it or rate it, I'm going to see it regardless and will make my own mind up.

Anyway:

Eurotrip: Unrated 4/5

A really good fun, crap comedy. Some very nice tits and some laugh out loud moments. Sure they've taken stereotyping to all new levels, but that's the whole point and part of the comedy. *sings* Scotty doesn't know...

I thought the "Pirates" films were crap. I tried my best to sit through Johnny Depps over-rated, award nominated Kieth Richards impersonation and I gave up after just 20 minutes. But you can't really blame the people who don't like these movies. I wouldn't want to pay to watch the same movie three times either.

Grindhouse has been split into two for the international releases, but that's because American fuckwits left after the first film thinking that it was over.

Out For Justice - 3/5
An early Seagal flick that I haven't seen over 10 yrs. Probably the weakest film of his classic days but waaaay better than any of the DTV crap he's putting out now.

To Where He Belongs 3/5

Worth waiting for as the usual triad stock content eventually gives way to a deeper, more nuanced drama with these type of characters. Simon Yam leads well.

M*A*S*H (1969) - (first was just initial rating) - 3.5/5

Pretty funny Seemed to get funnier as the film went on and I got used to things like Altman's technique of overlapping dialogue. Though the film is set in the Korean War, it may as well have been Vietnam - its got that conflict stamped on it. Cleverly mixes goofy comedy with much darker elements (the surgery scenes are graphic for the time).
Some funny scenes, including the crazy football game and the part where Frank and Hot-Lips nookie session is broadcast on the radio.
I think films like Stripes, Police Academy, Naked Gun etc owe something to this film, this started it all.
The guys in the film have their brains in their shorts, but theyre just normal people trying to get through a horrible situation IMO, though apparebtly the Hawkeye character was changed for the TV series.

Must've been a change for the worse, as Alan Alda was insufferable. Having flesh eating bacteria would've been funnier than the TV series.

I've heard the tone/style is different in the TV series - less dark.

A solidly plotted thriller that holds attention from start to finish.

I was like "WTF... HAHA" when the Algerian guy slit his throat. It seemed to come out of nowhere.

I liked this up until the credits... and then it lost me.

Too self-consciously wierd (as per BEING JOHN MALKOVICH) and not very funny.

Me too. Thought it was fantastic. Was great to see an original film once in a while!

The Science of Sleep is rambling on the other hand. It lacks solid writing like the Charlie Kaufman films.

The Science of Sleep is excellent.

Original doesn't equal greatness just difference.

I don't love or hate it, I just think it was very average. All felt a bit too staged in my opinion.

It was, its a film

Carey cannot act anyway, so thats the film in the shitter instantly.

I thought Carrey was good, but the whole film screamed "look at me, I'm quirky... woooohooo" and I like good old-fashioned coherent storytelling.
