Is Toshiba planning DVDs with online interactivity? -
http://blog.homecinemachoice.com/page/h ... _dvds_with
Jeez Louise give in Toshiba and just release a ruddy BD Player. DVD with Online interactivity, utter stupidity. It's already bad enough that no HD Player comes with Wireless, without this.

Ever since I started following IT and technology news there gas been a new optical disk format or expansion of existing ones every couple of months. The reality is that it took 15 years for the 12~ fold increase of DVD over CD and then about 10 years for the 6 fold increase of BD.

That is very impressive but I bet we won't see ti for sale any time soon, if at all.
We could see it as a backup medium though, like DVD-Ram before it.

Yowsers that's a good price. It's Profile 2.0 too:

Pity it's not MR.

If MRM manage to crack it and charge say £250-£275 i'd buy it.

A 2.0 for under £200? I'd buy it regardless. There's virtually nothing that's out on Region A that I can't get Region Free or Region B (inc. Eur and Aus).

Get your pre-order in then before the price goes up

Personally I put Profile 1.1 + MR above Profile 2.0 + Region Locked. Profile 1.1 is arguably more important than Profile 2.0.

Agreed. That would be a very good price.

Don't have an HDTV yet.
Is 2.0 the one that let's you play PIP?

No. That's Profile 1.1. Profile 2.0 includes Profile 1.1 of course and also web interactivity, online extras. Profile 2.0 shows potential but so far it's all quizzes and online crud.
Profile 1.1 - Band name: Bonus View or Fan name: Picture in Picture
Profile 2.0 - Brand name - BD Live

I see. Then I don't give a shit about 2.0 as I'm not gonna hook my machine up to the internet unless it's for a vital firmware upgrade.

If you don't plan to hook it up to the Internet Profile 1.1 is for you.
I have mine hooked up to the Internet but the connection rarely gets used. I have a few Web enabled HD-DVDs and can update firmware using the connection (but I never bother, as they get released to download using a PC first).
My router isn't very far from my LG BH200 so running an Ethernet connection is no big deal. When I move house I'll either not bother (my router is unlikely to be anywhere near the lounge) or get HomePlug so I can send the signal over the electrical system.
You can always update firmware by CD/DVD/USB Stick (depending on the model) anyway. I always do that. You download it to your PC then copy it across.

It's an old thread but it maybe Profile 1.0:

I say maybe as I've not checked about firmware upgrades.

If only it was BD Region Switchable.

If only... BUT as region coded players go it's excellent value.
At least it appears to be unless Sam comes back with negative word.

you don't want much for £129 do you

The problem is it's not £129 for coded and say £179 for free. It's two or three times the price. Outrageous. The BDA has given less scrupulous retailers a licence to assfuck the consumer yet again.

region coding has no place in this day and age tbh...it's the randomness of the titles they code that makes me chuckle. Night Of The Living Dead has probably had more dvd releases than any other title yet they region code the BD

Weinstein release The Mist region-free when it had only just come out in uk cinemas then code Halloween 2007 which has been on dvd everywhere!
