Actually I knew this was going to happen, but I just didn't want to admit it.
Ronny Yu did say that there wouldn't be subs.

The western distributor is called "Rogue Pictures". I don't know much about them.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

When did you hear that?

I've heard of them. They're owned by some bigger label I'm sure.

I can't remember exactly. I'll try to find the link.

Possibly Buena Vista.
EDIT: Nope, it's Universal. :D

And they're the distributor for all the Western countries? (i.e - Europe, North America and Australasia?)

Fingers crossed not the UK or Australia then. As they're the USA distributor I'm guessing they are the DVD one too.

Still it's better than Disney getting hold of it.

SO... since the HK DVD wont have subs, and it will be way too long before an western release, which will be the CUT version as well... I'll just be downloading this movie. Fuck them.
I'll even make a picture of the burned DVD in my hand and send it to Jet Li, Ronnie Yu, and who-ever holds the right to this movie in the west, with the message I'll copy it to share with all my friends as well.

If they cant fucking release a DVD as it should be released (uncut, subbed): BIG 'FUCK YOU' TO THEM!

There really should be a law against this. So many movies get so many different releases, and we, the customers, are more often then not, SCREWED, if we just want an uncut and subbed version.

Actually I think they did this to fight piracy.
They don't want english-speaking people to buy the DVD before it comes out in the US.

I'm sure it is, but it just makes ME, who hardly EVER downloads a movie, want to download it, instead of buying it legally.
If they would have just released it decently, I would have given them the cash no problem, but since they cant do that, I cant pay them either.
I'm not gonna wait 7-8 months for a CUT, AMERICAN version of a good movie. Cause I BET they're gonna fuck with it a bit more...
Probably digitally remove Jet Li's ponytail...

12 years after Fist of Legend and Drunken Master 2, 2 of the greatest MA movies EVER, and we still dont have a decent DVD release for either.

They are taking us for fools.

We, the fanbase, should make a definite stand against this crap. Threaten with a boycot or threaten to only download the movies untill they'll release these movies uncut etc. That's the ONLY way they might ever listen.
I've fucking had enough of this shit.
Every time asia makes a good movie, some western top-bananabonzo steps in, buys the rights, demands cuts and versions without subs etc, and these asian pussies roll over and let them fuck over their movies, and see them flop.

It's been this way ever since the Kurosawa flicks.
It needs to be stopped.

We SHOULD form 1 front against this. The WHOLE asian fanbase community... but ofcourse there will just be many people who say it's no use etc. Maybe it isnt, but doing absolutely NOTHING against this shit isnt gonna help matters either.

Constantin has the rights for Germany (I guess Switzerland and Austria as well) and the current official German theatrical release date is December 12th.

Just like with "Hero" and "House of Flying Daggers"... the only difference is that this time it is likely that I won't be owning the DVD before the German release date. Fuck 'em who decided not to use English subs. Will download fansubs then.

the worst thing about not having subtitles on Hong Kong version is it means that they don't have to put the same effort into the AV presentation, because whereas before we would have seen a full bit rate DTS with excellent picture. the respective Western releases would have had to have been of higher quality than normal or people would just say f*ck it I'll just get the region 3. :(

I only have a parsing interesting in AV quality when I'll never be buying it anyway.

I'm sure they aren't thinking that way at all. Most of their customers are not familiar with importing DVDs and that there are other films in this world apart from those that are released in their local HMV.

They also have a HK site Sky.

They had a few non-English subtitled DVDs before.

oh I didn't realise that. Still doesn't it seem strange to put non English subtitled foreign language films on a site aimed at the English-speaking market?

Well at least we got subs with Hero.

I can't believe an HK dvd company is doing this with an HK movie.

I'm not sure that Fearless will ever be released in the West.

Jet Li, Ronny Yu and screenwriter Wang Bin are facing a huge lawsuit.
Huo Shoujin (Huo Yuan-Jia's grandson) is really unhappy with Jet's portrayal of his grandfather.

LOL! Really? Well, Constantin have already bought the film. It will get released in Germany.

Hey, why is he unhappy. I'm sure his grandfather is portrayed as a double-hard bastard. Man, the trailer showed him training under-water.
