For Blu Rays I plug my headphones into an old tuner system and it sounds great to me. Loud and clear as I like. For DVDs I plug my phones into the TV and it does the job. Whatever works.

It's not that fucking bad. LOUD sounds and SHOUTING you can hear. Could probably get away with 5.1 during the day but not at night (when I like to watch films).

Calm down. I was backing you up :).

Why not plug the TVs output into the stereo and that way, whatever you listen to will come via the stereo. I used to use a stereo for DVDs back in the day. It sounded perfectly acceptable.

Actually, surely you use your BD Player for watching DVDs too?

There's only space for one input and so we chose the Blu Ray player.

Told you it was an old (read: ancient) tuner.

No. We have a dedicated DVD upscaler.

Exactly. It's still pretty common for standard stereo hifis to only have one AUX input.

So if you take the BD and DVD outputs into the TV and then out from the TV to the tuner. You'll then get around that problem. The TV will have multiple inputs and can then output whatever you're watching to the tuner. That's how I used to do it (back in the day), when I had a DVD Player and VHS Recorder. The TV just outputs whatever channel it's on.

I imagine it will give better audio quality DVD watching. It will also mean better audio for when watching TV during the day. Leave your TV's speakers muted.

Imagine for a second that I'm stupid (you won't have to try hard...)

I'd just like to say... huh?

Plug the BD audio and the DVD audio outs into my TV then plug the TV into the tuner?

Can that be done? (rhetorical)

Yes. You've got a LCD TV. Which always have multiple inputs and multiple outputs. Basically HDMI/Scart/Phonos all output audio from the DVD Player/BD Player, into whatever connection you're using on the TV (HDMI/Scart/Phonos). That gets Stereo sound into the TV from both sources. To get it out again, the TV will have a "TV Out" (it may not be called that exactly) pair of red/white phonos (it will be red/white phonos though). This outputs whatever happens to be on the TV screen (regular TV/BD/BD/Whatever). This is stereo only (as phonos are only stereo) but that's all you want anyway.

Plug that into the stereo Aux input on the Hifi and Bob's your uncle. Whether the Hifi connection is the really old 5 pin din, red/white phonos or 3.5mm plug, it doesn't matter. Once it's in the Hifi, you can obviously use the headphone connection, as you are anyway. It does mean running a cable from the TV to Hifi but then you're running a cable from the BD Player to Hifi anyway. So it's no different. I suspect you're taking a cable direct from the rear of the BD Player and into the Hifi. Don't bother doing this. You'll also be using HDMI from the BD Player to the TV. HDMI is carrying audio to the TV too.

I have a pair of Red/White phonos going out of the TV into my Amp. If I leave my Amp on the TV option, I get stereo audio from any source. It being my BD Player, Freeview+ or old DVD Player. The TV outputs whatever channel it is on. Obviously for the BD Player I switch my Amp over to the 5.1 mode most of the time but you get the idea.

Come to think of it, even my ancient CRT TV had a pair of red/white phonos, that were a general "audio out" for whatever channel it is on.

I use that trick for something else too. The Blu-Ray player is plugged directly to the TV via HDMI which carries sound (I also have a coax sound going to my amp for digital audio), I can pass that through the TV via the red/white stereo back to my amp in 'analogue direct' mode.

The analogue mode can beef up 'thin' stereo - or 2 jobs in one, an unbalanced surrond mix that also sounds tinny can be transformed into a beefier sounding stereo mix (I just did that watching Predator 2 on DVD. Eeeuuuuuwww.)

Not sure if this was already known here,as I don't read everything posted in the HD-section, but I noticed on play.com that they're listing a BluRay version for Battle Royale, special edition. Hopefully it's the director's cut.

Thanks Yi but yes it's been mentioned :). Discussion starts here:

https://www.bulletsnbabesdvd.com/forums/ ... le#p145390
And especially here: https://www.bulletsnbabesdvd.com/forums/ ... start=1231

So far we suspect it'll be the theatrical cut.

Thanks Brad. That sucks if it's the theatrical cut. What the hell is wrong with these companies? Pretty much everyone prefers the director's cut of this movie.

As said previously I don't mind either way. The films aren't significantly different anyway, to make me really care. The same goes for Donnie Darko and everyone else hates the director's cut of that one. I was just as confused as I was the first time :D.

Obviously we don't know it will be the theatrical cut, it's just posted running times etc... lead us to think that.

Battle Royale supposed to be a 3 disc set :o
2 BD's plus a DVD - increasing the possibility of both cuts, maybe?

Well spotted  . The 15th of November is also still being shown. Play and HMV also say it'll be 3 discs.

How'z about...?

Disc 1 - Theatrical Cut (BD)
Disc 2 - Special Edition (BD)
Disc 3 - Extras (DVD)

I wouldn't touch BR2 with a barge pole... it's shit!

I think the DVD would be given over to extras as well given they'll most likely be porting SD DVD extras over.
