Any news on ITLOD4?

I was hoping to pick it up next month (for the subs over the R1s dubs) but I'm now highly thinking it will be part of a "Donnie Yen" box set with Iron Monkey and I am happy with my HL PE for that. I don't want to buy a third DVD!

In fact I'm sure it will be a box set. No other IVL release has been separate so why this?

After which we have the "Bruce/Brandon Lee collection" with only Mr. Vampire on it's own in October.

It’s a pity but never mind the R1 dubtitles aren’t too bad.

Alas, I think all these future releases will be box sets. If you want ITLOD4 you may have to buy the set and sell Iron Monkey. I've heard that the Iron Monkey Platinum image is inferior to the original release so hopefully the HD transfer will improve on that? Don't really care about the extras that much.

I heard the same. I've owned the original and own the PE but couldn't tell the difference. However it's one of those that you need to do a side by side comparison to actually tell the difference. It's very minute. I traded the original before I bought the PE.

Nah I don't want subtitles enough to bother buying IM again to sell on. I'd imagine Mark you'll love the IVL IM. If I didn't already own it and it being my second DVD, of both IM and ITLOD4 actually (I used to own the HKL) I'd get it. I don't mind upgrading once but a third time would get on my nerves.

I'd love to see screen capture comparisons between the HKL: PE and IVL when it's released though and/or a written comparison.

The PE of Iron Monkey has better picture quality IMO than the earlier release. It is grainier but on the whole is supireor with more detail and less artefacting and pixellation. The extras are brilliant. My advice? Buy the PE cheap and compare it to your copy of the CE and then decide yourself. The only exclusive extra on the old release was the Donnie Yen interview and that's despensible.

Regarding the "Sam Hui" music on Warriors Two
1) Is it an actual Sam Hui tune?
2) Does it replace a different music cue from the original mono or was it just inserted into a non-music scene?

I still own the original HKL release of Iron Monkey (I have a hard time calling it a collector's edition) and the Universe In the Line of Duty IV so will likely buy this new IVL box set. Like yourself, if I had the Platinum Iron Monkey I'd probably be more reticent.

Ahem... [British Mode On] That's BOLLOCKS ! [/British Mode Off]

:D :D

Here's a comparison between the old HKL and the PE HKL:

http://img282.echo.cx/img282/2199/comp12me.jpg

In this pic, quality is exactly the same. The PE is slightly sharper and shows more grain thanks to the increase in bitrate.

Here's a second pic that shows why the PE is worth the upgrade:

http://img282.echo.cx/img282/5386/comp24ny.jpg

BTW this is a fair comparison with no trickery involved. This macro-blocky mess IS the original CE HKL !
While some people might not care about the low bitrate (maybe their eyes aren't working very well, or maybe it's their TVs that are too small  ), it's well worth the upgrade if you've got a big screen.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

As often happens it's subjective:

All in all they're about the same IMO.

Hey,

On July 14 IVL will release this Sammo box set:

Sammo Hung's Action Collection
Spooky Encounters (aka Encounters Of The Spooky Kind)
Knockabout
Magnificent Butcher, The

I'd get this set if I didnt already have Mag Butcher HKL which is very good.

Also:

Legacy Of Rage & The Way Of The Dragon Box Set

So no "Way" on its' own then, oh well.

I would buy the "Armour of God 1 and 2" box set, when is that coming out?

Actually, the HKL Mag Butch isn't so hot IMO. It's distorted for one thing. Their Spooky Ecounters, however, is excellent: maybe that's the one you mean?

Looks that way... no pun intended. I expect it'll be a repackage job anyways wihout Mandarin Mono. Nothing these HK companies like to doing more than repackaging. HKL have made a specialty of it. Upcoming Jet Li Collection anyone?

Muldoon only has the confirmed list for June-July, so maybe the AOG box will still come out in August? Looking forward to this one. I just hope that Fortune Star give IVL the ultra-rare footage shot with Alan Tam. If they can include never-before-seen Project A scenes no reason why this can't be repeated... but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Re. Mr. Vampire.

On the ADVDG the sound is listed only as DTS and DD5.1.

However unless my eyes are mistooken on the sleeve it also lists Original Cantonese 1.0. I hope that's right. And I hope they've fixed the fucking subs. Malcolm, my arse!!

:D Yeah but he does actually say Coca-Cola doesnt he? (Can't remember).

I thought HKL Mag Butcher was very good, didnt realise it was distorted. How is it distorted?

I havent got Spooky Encounters HKL or Knockabout. I may pick that up if its cheap then if I only want 1 title.

What rare AoG scenes are these? I'm sure I read somewhere that the famous stunt in AoG (where JC smashed his head) was actually shown silent over the outtakes in one version, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, that's how the HKL translates it. Ruining the joke. Gil explained a while back that Ricky Hui is offered "Coffee" and refuses instead asking for "Cafe" - which is Chinese for Coffee. Or something like that? Coke doesn't come into it.

Picture was slightly cropped and squashed, IIRC.

Yeah, you're as well getting the IVL Box.

That was in the Channel 4 screening. As for rare footage. When it looked as though Jackie wouldn't be completing the film, Golden Harvest shot new scenes of Alan Tam so he would be the action star. When Jackie recovered those scenes went unused and Alan remained sidekick.

Do you mean I should get the IVL Box even though I have Mag Butcher already? What I meant was I might pick up Spooky Encounters (HKL), not the box :)

Oh, I see. But if you don't have Knockabout the Box gives you two titles. HKL haven't released Knockabout, though you could get the Fox version. That's assuming you actually want Knockabout.

Dunno if I want Knockabout Mark... (I dont have it). :) Spooky Encounters was the one I had my eye on.
Have Fox released Spooky Encounters or is the HKL still the best (overall?) :)

It's a good kung fu comedy. If you like that genre.

Yes, Fox released it. Suggestions of sync problems on the Mono track. But I never bought it so can't confirm. If the image on the Fox is better it must be only a fraction as the HKL is one of the best. The good thing about the box over HKL is that you get three in one go. Oh, and Mag Butch HKL was squeezed according to an ADVDG poster. I knew there was something up with it. I didn't get the Fox because of the dubtitles/5.1, but assuming the IVL set has Mono for each film - make sure and check - odds are it'll be the best yet.

Sorry, I must've missed that. I just remember Gil giving the HKL subs a roasting when the DVD came out.

According to the FS blurb/specs for the "Way of the Dragon" boxset (with Legacy of Rage) they dont mention Mandarin mono for "Way" only DTS and DD. Doh!

It's the same here:

http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=57794

Who the bloody hell wants "Legacy of Rage"? Just give us "Way of the Dragon" on it's own or if you must release a box set put it with "FoF". A 3D Mouse Mat :D Whatever next?

I "may" get this I'd really like a decent quality WOTD and I've not seen LOR (is it any good?). It's £12.99 at CD WOW.

Sammo Hung Action Collection info here:

I thought Knockabout was mainly a Yuen Biao picture?
