Reported over at dvdforums that the German Rambo steelbook is Region B locked....no biggie until you realise it's a warner title,possibly their first locked release.

Bollocks .

The UK release is also Region B and I cannot remember the last Sony Region Locked disc before it. I wonder if Lionsgate put their foot down in Europe, not that that would make sense when Lionsgate's disc is Region Free.

I wonder if the 9 minutes are more action ( of which there is plenty) or drama. Overall I'm excited about this though. The Theatrical Cut is too short but it's still not one I'd rush to re-buy.

I wonder if this is really Region A because I cannot see Sony releasing a UK BD any time soon. Lions Gate's Theatrical Cut BD is Region Free (whilst the Sony BD is Region B).

Odd they've changed the title for the Extended Cut to "John Rambo" (although just to make it confusing, the cover still calls it Rambo). A title it should've always been called too:

"The film (now titled "John Rambo") is presented in an "Extended Cut" (99:16) which runs roughly eight minutes longer than the theatrical cut. Returning passionate monologuing back into the feature and reordering some of the plot, the new version of "Rambo" takes on a more pointedly philosophical tone, with a refreshing sense of despair to wind up the film's nightmarish final act. The new textures slow the picture down some, but the result is a more thought-provoking and emotionally satisfying movie."

Interesting because the theatrical cut is pretty bereft of emotion.

I'm not sure about this new cut... the pacing of the theatrical cut was somewhat perfect. The whole damn film was somewhat perfect.

I'd love to see someone do an indepth edit comparison.

What was the German site that had tons of detailed comparisons between different edits of films?

If it aint 8 minutes of hardcore gore, who gives a shit.

Yes, because that's what Rambo really needs... more gore...

Most of the restored footage was included as deleted scenes on the original disc. So if you have that you'll get the idea. I enjoyed the theatrical cut but a bit more depth wouldn't hurt.

Why though? Sure Rambo is to the point but they must've known it would just lead to confusion. First Blood has always colloquially been called Rambo.

Overall I agree but given how short it is, extra dialogue driven scenes is no bad thing. Besides the original BD is very good in it's own right.

Thanks. I'll have to check out my BD. I do much prefer footage part of the film though. Deleted scenes are hard to put into context.
