Watched the first 2 episodes of Rome. Didnt care much for the 1st one, but the 2nd episode got a bit better.

The rest of the series will have to wait till I'm back from vacation.

Cant say it's as good and interesting as hoped yet. Heard so much good stuff about it, but I dont know... it just seems ... meh.

Its long but I think you should stick with it. It's certainly well made and acted

Gangsters Series 1 eps. 3-6 4/5

First series of this excellent 70's crime drama comes to a close.i love the cliffhanging endings to each episode and Maurice Colbourne in the starring role is very good,pity he didn't go on to nothing more than Howard's Way before his early death. the makers of Life On Mars certainly watched this show and i'm looking forward to watching Series 2 which goes off in an entirely new direction.

I'm sure The Sweeney was an inspiration for Life on Mars too (some of the Gene Genie's lines). Will check it out

What show is this Salty? I've found it on IMDB but with such a generic name it's hard to find more about it.

Gangsters series 2 eps. 1-3 3/5

The second series of this 70's crime drama goes off in a different but not necessarily better direction. Most of the main characters from the first season return which is welcome.the villains this time round are triads and the series is getting increasingly surreal and self-referential.first series definitely better so far.

The second and final series comes to a close, increasingly surreal and full of self-parody especially in the last episode,the second season is in no way a match for the first,it's as if the writer (Philip Martin) got bored halfway through.disappointing to see major characters like Khan sidelined for the final episodes. Still well worth seeing ,the first series especially.

Lone Wolf & Cub Eps. 1 3/5

I Know very little about this series but i loved the movies.This first episode is surprisingly decent,the guy playing Itto is ok and the story moves along at a fast clip.Subs are ok ,yellow ones.looking forward to seeing how this show develops.

This is surprisingly very good,obviously not up to the standards of the majestic movie series but very well done nonetheless. can't wait for vol.2,which is the only downside really-as they made 78 epsodes and are only putting 5 on each volume i'm looking at 16 volumes (32 discs) hopefully tokyo shock will release them all as i heard they stopped releasing Zatoichi before the end.

Ray Winstone: Sweeney Todd: 4.5/5

Thought this was excellent. Great acting and atmosphere.
Ray Winstone was great in it although don't forget Mrs Lovett as well.

Father Ted S1 E1-3 - 5/5

Hilarious. One of the best comedies IMO

Thought this was excellent. Very promiising start to a series showing over 5 nights from Monday to Friday. Very gripping and well acted. A young man, Ben, picks up a girl and goes back to her flat. The next morning, he wakes up to find her dead. Then Ben is arrested for murder. Only thing is, he has no memory of how this happened and no idea how she could have died.

Overall, an outstanding series, gripping and really well acted. Just such a shame the ending and most of the final episode didnt match up to the rest of the series as a whole.

This looks good, what a dumb idea to show the whole show over one week.

5 episode series, eh? I suppose that the traditional concept of a mini-series over consecutive nights would be alien when the usual British TV season is ~6 episodes anyway.

I don't really care when they air programmes. Time recording + watching at one's leisure - commercials has become a way of life for me.

WTF is with fluctuating times at which they show Dr. Who? It's like at a different time every week.

It is an odd British anomaly. Wasn't Red Dwarf and Black Adder only 6 episodes? Ashes to Ashes/Life on Mars are only 8 episodes. 13 episodes for Doctor Who is unusually long.

That said I wouldn't want the American system where they really milk it to the point it ruins the show (in the examples I've seen!).

It really does my fucking nut in. The BBC did the same last series too.

Thankfully my PVR has the ability to update the start/end time for me. Last year I used my HDD/DVD Recorder which has no intelligence and I would every week miss the start. I ended up having to cancel the scheduled recording and set it fresh each week.

Every fucking week it's on a different time.

American NETWORK TELEVISION system, that's the keyword there. You'll that where the majority of their top-notch TV comes from, pay TV channels, they have very conservative episode numbers per season (very similar episode counts to UK TV seasons, 10-13) and know when to call it quits (most of the time).

We've been over this, there's been plenty of British TV shows that have outstayed their welcome. 'Allo 'Allo, Coupling and Absolutely Fabulous come to mind. Don't get me started on your weekly TV soaps/procedurals, like The Bill.

You cannot compare a soap with a standard TV drama. I'm sure New Zealand has soaps that have been going on for decades. Australia certainly has, a soap is very different.

Actually though, The Bill is much better than it used to be, even if you may still not like it. It's a much better drama now it's an hour long and stories span more than one episode.

S7 and 8 of Red Dwarf had 8 episodes each instead of the usual 6.

Excellent I havent even seen S2 beyond these first eps (IIRC), hopefully it will get me in the mood to buy S3. Sawyer's one liners are hilarious
