Dude, Van Damme's acting in "Until Death" is unusually good. His best acting performance ever. He even outplays Stephen Rea in this film.

That's coz Stephen Rea is aware that he's stuck in a terrible role in a deeply mediocre film, you can see the lack of drive and sadness in his eyes! :D . Until Death is a really weird film for British viewers to watch, coz it's supposed to be this ultra gritty, sleazy crime thriller set in New Orleans, but almost all the actors in the film (aside from the stars) are poor UK TV character actors who can't do a middle American accent competently, let alone a New Orleans one! Generally the film feels like an episode of The Bill with drug use and doggy shagging thrown in for bad measure.

Van Damme does put in the performance of his career, but he's merely competent in this film, which is a huge step up considering he couldn't even play himself competently in previous films! :D

I wouldn't agree with that. He was competant in his early films (mostly) but over the last decade has kept improving and unlike Steven Seagull seems to really care about the performance he's giving (even in low grade dreck like 'Replicant' or 'In Hell'). I haven't seen Until Death yet, but will at some point.

That could be Gangs of New York.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".
