Is there a different version of the actual movie on the JS DVD Keung, or is it the same as the HKL? :)

In 'visual' quality  ?
Pretty sure he's not talking about the transfer, all the deleted scenes are truly awful - except for the Jazz scene, which is so bizarre it's almost inspired.

Same as the HKL Grim, the deleted scenes were taken from the Singapore version of the film. There are much better deleted scenes shown via slideshow on the disc (I think they only had access to stills otr dodgy workprints of these).

Right, I was talking about the content, not the A/V. The 'pretending to play musical instruments' scene was bizarre AND bad. Be honest. It does NOT belong in Crime Story and would've been thrown out a 'Twins' romantic comedy. I can't believe Kirk Wong had anything to do with these(?)

Yeah, the slideshow material was never shown in any version, as it was scrapped before Jackie cut the final movie together. Must still exist somewhere though... mind you more of Kent Cheng having sex isn't something I'm desperate to see. :D

Oh don't get me wrong, I agree it doesn't belong in any movie, let alone Crime Story, but as a seperate deleted scene it's very amusing :D.

I got the impression from this set that Kirk's original take on the story was going to be part action thriller, part romantic drama. I assume whatever shit he was taking when he dreamt up these sequences wore off pretty fast in the editing room (either that or only the JC edit of the film dropped them).

One question: It was said that there would also be 2 little posters, or at least postkards. Is that true?

Police Story is barely a film, "narrative stunt documentary" would be a better description.

Police Story is great, but to call Vrime Story "garbage" is way of the mark IMO.

Crime Story is a strong film, but not as great as it COULD have been.

Police Story is classic Jackie entertainment.

Here's a pretty good comparison between HKL's and DD's:

Thanks Lee. The DD clearly wins.

I'd be interested to see one between the DD and JS DVDs.

JS wins as DD is bizarrely cropped.

How bad is it? Are we talking 1.85:1 to 1.78:1 cropping or 2.35:1 to 1.85:1 type cropping?

Thanks. Any captures?

DD clearly beats HKL, HKL looks way too bright/washed out.

I did notice that Joy Sales subtitles alignment is a bit poorer than HKL sometimes, but does apparently translate something HKL doesn't at the end.

Thanks Chen.

I'm presuming the second one is cropped (so the DD), right? -

To me they look 99% the same. The DNR on the JS looks more extreme to me than the DD cropping. I'd be happy with either of them, the cropping is fairly minor. I wouldn't spot it unless I saw two captures like this.
