Then call me stupid. What kind of knob adjusts their settings everytime they watch a film... oh, wait... you! Seriously, you pick the best settings (for PC or TV) and leave it at that. If the image doesn't look good don't blame the monitor, blame the product.romerojpg wrote:Nothing wrong with my caps anyway, ajust your PC screen until they look goodas you would do that on your TV, unless your stupid that is and watch all dvds on the exact same settings.

That's really not necessary at all unless you have some ancient fucked-up set that can't output NTSC properly.grim_tales wrote:I don't change very much - all I do is increase the brightness by 5 points and decrease the colour by 5 for watching NTSC but not I don't change things for EVERY single DVD, if you see what I mean, can't be bothered with that.

If you need to adjust your display settings everytime you change DVDs, then your settings are fucked-up.
On my projector, I have found ideal settings that work for pretty much every DVD I own.
ONCE AND FOR ALL:
About capturing with PowerDVD:
-Configuration -> Player -> Advanced -> Snapshot:
Capture to BMP file (then convert to JPG).
Captured Aspect Ratio: 720x404 for 16/9, 720x540 for 4/3.
-Configuration -> Video -> Hardware acceleration:
Disable.
-Configuration -> Video -> Use color profile : original.
-Configuration -> Video -> Advanced -> Deinterlacing:
Disable all forms of deinterlacing.
-Configuration -> Video -> Advanced -> Color:
All settings to 0.
When all these settings are correct, you've got accurate caps.

Not at all. If you watch films in the day light and night time with the exact same settings, good for you. The light conditions change the picture a massive amount for me and I tweak the contrast and brightness all the time to get Blacks looking black, or if its very light in day time raise them a bit as you see bugger all (on any TV) during sunny conditions.
If you dont good for you, but hey I want to acctually see the picture in all light conditions. It takes a second to do so its not as if you killing your family to get the best results.
Same can be said about a PC monitor too, the light effects the screen a massive amount, you try playing games in with bright sun on your screen with normal settings.
Thats what I meant by changing settings
not Pal and NTSC etc.. just the conditions of the room
I bet you lot change you music volume every time you watch a film? no difference at all if you ask me as the same conditions dont appy all the time.
and Bradavon
I just seem to want a new Vista machine (but hey I am sure it will be bugged to hell!! so may not) and maybe a nice new duel core Pentium chip which seem to be rather good when they come out, still I may just go for other stuff as they will come down in price even more. In no rush I guess unless my PC blows

Fair enough Romero.
Bare in mind it will take 2-3 months for Vista to bed in.
I won't be buying it on release but as soon as drivers are out for my hardware (fingers crossed I won't HAVE to upgrade) and it's been out 2-3 months I'll be upgrading. It's really ideal to wait for the first service pack and for business' it's essential but come on service packs take flipping months to come out and it's overkill anyway.
That said which version? XP is out in 3 client flavours (Home, Pro, Media Center) but there will be at 5 different client versions of Vista (4 really as 1 is for specialist use):
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/g ... /editions/
It looks like:
* Windows XP Home Edition (sold on the majority of PC's) - Will become Windows Vista: Home Basic
* Windows XP Pro - Will become Windows Vista: Business
* Windows Media Center - Will become Windows Vista: Home Premium (it specifically mentions Media Center in the blurb)
It's actually not that confusing at all but I can't help thinking the old names were better. I doubt many will need Ultimate. Ultimate looks to be Home Premium and Business put together, but I bet it will cost a bomb.
I'd imagine most pc's will ship with Home Basic or maybe a combo of Home Basic and some Home Premium. Business won't be sold in the shops (except retail) so not with new pc's but of course business' will want it.
I'll pick up Ultimate unless it's really expensive in which case I'll get Home Premium.
I wouldn't be surprised if both Home versions lacked support to connect them to a Domain (which is fine as you'll never ever need this at home).
I don't see any Server versions mentioned but then there never has been any XP Server versions (all are designed for client machines) with Windows 2003 filling that gap. Which hasn't been out "that" long anyway.
I'd like to get a Media Center PC but the idea I have (replacing my Hifi with a Media Center) won't work properly unless it's in the kitchen so there's no point buying one of those until I move out and paying for Media Center 2005 (XP with new MC features) seems daft now with Vista Media Center around the corner.

Only between talk and action films but yes more often as loud action pisses my Dad off. Come next summer when I move out (Brad's first pad) that will be a thing of the past.I bet you lot change you music volume every time you watch a film?

The thing is so many dvds are wrongly transfered, and you have to alter some dvds to get the film looking better.
A good example of this is that region 1 Reservoir Dogs transfer, I had to, I repeat HAD TO made it look a little darker as it was so damn bright. Many films you have to do that for I find.
If I see a film and I think hey thats a bit dark, or thats a bit light then surley you would alter your TV a little to get it looking better to you?
I watched Kingdom of Heaven last night, and I thought the transfer was a bit too dark, so I brightened it up a little and broght it to life a little more, doesnt take more than what? 3 seconds. Would you just suffer?
If we were not supoded to mess about with settings, they would not have them

Sorry for the delay guys,
I Have been really busy in the last few days anyway here are the 5 caps:

Romero's caps are definately fucked, no offence meant but he must have the colour/contrast enhancer left on, no way the colours are that bold.
James Bond's You Only Live Twice will be up next.

PowerDVD -> Configuration -> Video -> Video enhancement.
It's a crappy feature that modifies colours, contrast and brightness so that it will look "better" on poor LCD screens.
