Amy Winehouse maybe tapped to write the theme tune, sing the theme tune ... if she can sobre keep 'til April. The world waits in awe.
Good luck with that, because everyone knows that she can only find her Quantum of Solace in substance abuse. Shame really, because she does have talent.

Yeah, been hearing some of her stuff lately, and she IS talented. To bad she's such a fucking junkie emo crackwhore.
I actually thought she died last saturday, cause I was out shopping with my babe, and in 3 movies that i visited one after another, they were playing here music (one a DVD live concert, the other 2 radio and/or cd)

I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

How can they go from the excellent "You Know My Name" by gravel-voice Chris Cornell (which fit with Casino Royale perfectly!) to Amy Winehouse?!
Her voice is awful, and really begins to grate after a few lines! Grrr! I hope they don't pick her...

Excellent? Hardly. It was incredibly bland and almost tuneless. Not the worst mind; Madonna still owns that award. But I expect it'll be a fucking masterpiece compared to Amy Whinehouse's offering. Who's next: Coldplay? *shudders*EvaUnit02 wrote:Pffft. "You Know My Name" was an excellent song by an excellent musician. Find some taste.

Why wouldn't that work today?
Is it because she's old? Are you ageist now?
Bassey's Bond themes are classics all... You ask anyone TODAY what the best Bond themes are and see if at least 2 of those don't make the top 10 (People seem to forget about the sublime Moonraker for some reason...)
The last song to approach Bassey's greatness was Licence to Kill in 1989!

Yes Mark because that's what I said, jumping to assumptions again I seeMarkgway wrote:Is it because she's old? Are you ageist now?
It wouldn't work as Shirley Bassey hasn't released any new material for years, she's a product of the 60s/70s and not relevant in a modern market.
I love Living Daylights, very catchy.Markgway wrote:The last song to approach Bassey's greatness was Licence to Kill in 1989!
The last good Bond song was Tina Turner with Goldeneye, that sounded very much like a Bond song. The Casino Royale one was good too, but didn't sound much like a Bond song.

Actually I was poking fun there...bradavon wrote:Yes Mark because that's what I said, jumping to assumptions again I seeMarkgway wrote:Is it because she's old? Are you ageist now?![]()
Give her a good song and she'll belt it out. Her voice - from what I've heard - is still strong. I don't believe anyone should be pigeon-holed to particular era. No one had even heard of the guy who did Casino Royale so market concessions are only part of it.It wouldn't work as Shirley Bassey hasn't released any new material for years, she's a product of the 60s/70s and not relevant in a modern market.

Which was BEFORE LTK... 8)I love Living Daylights, very catchy.
Wasn't too bad admittedly... Turner gives a certain class whereas Whinehouse comes off all sleazy (not 007-like at all). The last good Bond song was Tina Turner with Goldeneye, that sounded very much like a Bond song.
That didn't help. I'm maybe being a bit tough on it for that reason... it wasn't GREAT though...The Casino Royale one was good too, but didn't sound much like a Bond song.

I never said it wasn'tWhich was BEFORE LTK... Cool
While I think Amy Winehouse would be able to song a Bond song well (she has the right type of voice). I do think a named star on the whole isn't a good idea. An unknown is better. No one had even heard of the guy who did Casino Royale so market concessions are only part of it.

Plenty of people have heard of Chris Cornell, former lead singer (of one of the better Seattle grunge bands to see mainstream success,) Soundgarden and more recently Audioslave (famous for being 3/4 of Rage Against the Machine). Your generalisation fails, badly.Markgway wrote: No one had even heard of the guy who did Casino Royale so market concessions are only part of it.

Yup pretty ignorant comment there Mark, Chris Cornell has been one of the most well known and regarded rock stars in America for a long time now. Oh and getting Shirley Bassey in to do the theme song would defeat the purpose of today's bond themes, which are just cynical commercial tie-ins nowadays.

I liked the 90's Bond songs - Surrender - on the end of Tomorrow Never Dies, was even better than the main song. The World Is Not Enough was suitably swirly sounding and a freakin' masterwork compared to 2002's effort. Die Another Day was total pants.
Didn't Shirley Bassey do a big band cover of Get The Party Started a couple of years back?

What the hell's wrong with that? Personally, I love his voice. I've got all of Audioslave's CDs, most of Soundgarden's, both Chris' solo CDs and even the bootleg of his Unplugged in Sweden gigs, which is one of my favourite CDs - wish there was an official version available
If you think he can't sing, download Unplugged in Sweden & listen to that. "Like a Stone", "Wide Awake", "Be Yourself", "Billy Jean", "All Night Thing", "Black Hole Sun", etc are all perfect on this LIVE recording. Brilliant stuff. "Wide Awake" is probably my favourite song, ever.
I think Chris' voice was perfectly suited to the "come & have a go if you think you're hard enough" mentality of the song. It was brilliant.
