If it has the guitar twangs it's the original theatrical score.

If it doesn't it's the workprint score. (I can't think what else to call it?)

Guitar Twangs? During which scenes? Like every now and then? Because they are in both the HKL and the German disc.

that workprint score for lack of a better word contains a few more songs from the band Extreme and if you look at the early scene at the bad guy's lair, just before Chow arrives with butterfly knife and all, what they're listening to on the boom boxes is different. Some unamed music possibly by Teddy Robin Kwan in the original version and "When I'm President" by Extreme on the workprint score. The latter choice is reportedly what's on HKL's dvd.

Not easy if you don't know the song (I do, and the album) but that's one difference.

A good clue is the boombox on the release version is playing Cantopop dead loud whilst the workprint has a quiet English language song by Extreme

I'm afraid, I didn't always get the exact frame, but I think it's enough for comparison.

Picture Quality on HKL is far superior to the remastered Mei Ah, but unfortunatly HKL does not feature the original Soundtrack (Mei Ah remastered does). So I guess I have to buy the german disc from E-M-S too.......

From an 5.1 point of view how does the HKL compare to Mei Ah Remaster? I'm happy with my HKL, but I'm guessing the Mei Ah Remaster has a fuller 5.1 track, right?

The German DVD looks the best but it has no English subs so doesn't interest me.

Mei Ah 5.1 had added, not so smoothly integrated effects such as gunshots.

So does HKL's Cantonese track have the same music cues as Sony's R1?

HKL, R1 and Mei Ah remaster are supposed to be the same.

No, the Mei Ah has the original music cues - remix only.

I still have my Mei Ah original which isn't too bad, that's why I haven't bothered to upgrade to the HK Video yet.

On the Sony R1, the Cantonese audio switches briefly into English for 2 lines during the sex scene. Is this intentional or a defect?

Interestingly, the HKL uses an English export print - all the credits are in English only. I don't know how the R1 fares in this regard

The version I watched on the UK Player123 (?) channel showed English/Chinese credits .

The title card is Chinese/English, the rest is English only. Same with the trailer

Well I just got the Sony R1 and the title card differs slightly from the ones in the screencaps. The Chinese logo is the same but the English text is not yellow but white instead.

The Tai Seng/Mei Ah re-release was crap. My Sony R1 still looks and sounds better.

Tai Seng is always crap since they're a redistributor...

Not always. Some of their DVDs have been their own.

yes, they did Ric Meyers commentaries and often did new subtitle translations. Picture quality was often laclustre though
