All the more surprising when you consider that they entrusted the film's mega-budget to that best known of blockbuster directors... er, Frank Coraci. Who exactly thought HE was the best man for the job? Or is it simply down to the fact that he sucked the most executive dick?

Eisner owed the Mob a favour.

Actually The Waterboy and Wedding Singer were pretty big hits in the US (particularly the latter) and they made him one of the hottest new comedy directors in hollywood going into the new millenium. I think it's very telling that he was hired to direct this film, and that Coraci didn't do anything for 6years between 80 Days and Waterboy. I'd put money on the project having originally been a straight out comedy (and possibly an Adam Sandler film) but Disney decided to reimagine it as a martial arts adventue comedy instead. The whole thing stinks of pre-production problems.

I'm not saying the man can't direct comedy (though having seen The Waterboy I might...) but that he was the wrong person to direct a multi-million budget global adventure. Waterboy and Wedding were small films in comparison there mostly to allow Sandler do his manchild gurning.

Sunshine - 2.5/5
Danny Boyle/Alex Garland syndrome strikes again. Just like 28 Days Later (and The Beach too I'll admit. But that went to shit in the 2nd act.), this film had a fairly good beginning and middle, but an absolute garbage 3rd act. Let's just say the film starts out like 2001 but shifts to being more like Event Horizon.

Mr. Bean's Holiday - 3/5

Thought this was OK, decent film, there were some familliar TV sketches, cheating at a raffle, bad osyters in restaurant - and Atkinson proves himself to be a fine physical comedian. Indeed, he is at his best when given free rein on his own, eg when trying to catch his stray coach ticket to Cannes which has become attatched to a chicken's foot, or wandering onto a film set.
In a plot thread seemingly stolen from one of the old TV episodes (Mind The Baby, Mr. Bean), a boy is seperated from his father, and tags along with the hapless Bean :) The segments with the boy are the weakest, though a sequence where our heroes secure food money by combining opera, mime and street theatre is inspired - and shows Rowan's skill at slapstick, physical comedy :D

hey,

My Flying Wife 4/5 (Encore viewing)

A clever and felt mixture of the triad movie and the ghost movie, leading to one of the better genre excursions in addition to being a gravely underrated Sammo Hung performance. Fun supporting acts by Shing Fui-On, Roy Cheung and Tommy Wong, all playing highly or slightly askew versions of characters we've seen them do before.

Sean Bean was the only reason I would even consider watching this (I have the original on DVD). I'm curious to see what he does with an iconic lead role (compared to Hauer).

YES! With an extra hour, Fruit Chan provides more scenes with Tony Leung, a sex scene with him and Bai Ling. More elaborate overall really, which also means in this case that the ending is different.

Kaante - 3.5/5 - 4/5

Quite lengthy yet enjoyable Bollywood take on Resevoir Dogs. :) There are some songs in the film (a few) which seem a bit strange at first given the genre of the film, and there is an interesting use of slow motion in places. There's even a version of the "Are you gonna bark all day little doggie? Or are you gonna bite?" line.
The scene where the gang try to guess who the mole is is like Res Dogs (also latterly Infernal Affairs).
Were some of the girls in the film nice or what! :o

I thought Dumplings was piss poor, maybe it should've stayed a short subject?

I thought it worked well as a feature length production. The only way I could imagine for the short version to work is if it were completely different.

Maybe Slasher has seen it.
Wierdly the UK DVD looks to be a part of the R1 (?) with the US MPAA logo at the start.

It's a lot more, that's all I can say. Not just extended scenes here and there.
