"The Promise" is really an exceptional film from Chen. Apart from the films mentioned by the others, "Together" is very decent as well.

A good fun action comedy. Jean Reno is as cool as ever, and the Japanese chick in it is pretty and hot. Some bits of it were a bit dubious though like near the end when the mob guy goes into the bank with the japanese girl, they are served by Momo who speaks french to them. Should the mob guy not have got a little suspicious that something was up then?

Wonderful film where you really get to understant what it is all about at the end.

Too much trying to be funny dialogue, but a decent action film with lots of big explosions. I liked Jet Li in a bad guy's role too, would like to see him in more bad guy roles!

Among The Stars 3/5

The writer of Run And Kill turned into an arthouse director, here making his second film backed by Ying E Chi films (whose aim it is to back indie filmmakers). Starring SPL and Juliet In Love director Wilson Yip, this is a fairly rewarding, slow, mundane look at various stages of relationships.

Why didn't you like Pan's Labyrinth? I haven't seen it yet but have heard nothing but praise for it from critics and users here alike.

I was just severely disappointed by it. The hype is entirely unjustified. It felt like Jim Henson's Labyrinth only they replaced David Bowie and the cool-ass muppets with Nazi's. It seemed to lack scale and a clear precise concept. Somewhat of a mess. Some nice moments and the creatures are impressive, but other than that, I was hugely disappointed.

Total Recall is awesome. Up there with Predator and Conan the Barbarian as Arnie's best.

Dune (Theatrical Version) - 2/5

Great design and the effects hold up quite well, but the storytelling is a complete and total mess.

Dog Bite Dog - 2.5/5
Very nice imagery, but seriously... how stupid can a team of cops be? I am surprised they survived that long before Edison came to HK. And the bright tone of images accompanied by that nice music with the female vocals at the final third of the film didn't make me sympathise with Edison's character one bit.

I wouldn't say it's terrible, (I gave it 3/5 I think) but the 1971 version is so much better IMO, a great family film and Gene Wilder is superb

I don't really care for the original film all that much, but it's about a million times better than Burton's catastrophe.

Hmmm... before I took this with me from the video rental I work at, I thought it is going to be another Wesley Snipes direct-to-video stupid actioner. It's not. It's a very entertaining comedy/action/gangster/police/serial killer film. Really enjoyed it.

I really liked Charlie and the Chocolate Factory too! Was a 3.5-4/5 film for me. Although I'll need to see it again to consolidate that rating.

A few funny scenes, but not enough to save this rather poor film. Stupid isn't a word that does justice to how stupid some of this film is.

Really enjoyed this one. Been years since I saw it last and fortunately I'd forgotten most of what happened, so was greatly entertained. Was funny seeing Daniel Wu in a decent role too, rather than some of the crap he's been in. Lots of gun fights, high body count, some decent fighting too.
