Got Final Fantasy XII today. Played it a little and I got the official guidebook with it, which is amazing. If you've ever used any of the PiggyBack guidebooks, you'll know that they are incredibly well-written, well-presented books. Well, they did a limited hardcover version for this game which, has a very 'Ye Olde Tome' look and feel to it. Très cool.

Oh, and the game rules ;)

I just beat Ninja Gaiden Black on Master Ninja difficulty! :D

Only 461 people on XBox Live have beaten the game on that mode in the whole world. I am ranked 270th with 10,681,559 Karma. :)

Sawyer, Sharon, Rasczak, Six and Lando all pop up in the game, too! I can't wait! :D

Nob-jockey. I've had it (and others) for ages using an emulator. I want to play the game with a pad again, instead of a keyboard.

Why didnt you just get an xbox 360 pad for windows?

Anyway, I played both Streets of Rage 1 and 2 on my Megadrive in the old days, I have to say that it became quite boring after a while. Sonic can still entertain me to this day, Revenge of Shinobi probably as well... but Streets of Rage, like most side-scrolling beat them ups, just is way too linear for me.

BTW, I think the closest to a 3d version of the old side-scrolling genre, would be Ninja Gaiden (black).

One game I really enjoyed on Dreamcast was "Dynamite Cop" which comes pretty close to a 2D side-scrolling beat 'em up. It was just a very short game.

I really feel that companies should get back to 2d games. Obviously, not stopping with 3d games, but just extra games.

Pretty much all Sonic 3d games have failed, while the 2d games were great. So why not make HD, Widescreen NEW Sonic games? Set in the original sonic world (sonic 1+2), without all the crappy extra characters (except a few) and just make a big-ass huge epic Sonic 2 game for next-gen.

Same goed for 2d fighters like Streetfighter and Guilty Gear etc.
And games like old Metroid.

Just get some good designers on that and design a kick-ass 2d world. Either spite-based or in 3d (but playing like 2d)

The 2d platformers and fighters were great genres when done right, and somehow they got 'replaced' by 3d variations, while I feel they could and should exist alongside eachother.

2D games never died, they moved to handhelds or "evolved".

Eg Most fightings games are still 2D, you mostly move from left to right and occasionally strafe up and down. 3D graphics didn't change a thing for that genre, aside from the strafing.

Your wish has been answered. Well, to a certain extent. ;) Sonic and the Secret Rings uses the special stage from Sonic 2 as a template, and the entire game has Sonic running into the screen 'on rails', as it were. You hold the Wii-mote like a standard controller and use it to move Sonic from the left to right and to jump. Only Sonic is playable (although Tails has popped up as a character that he speaks to) and the one of the big things is that it's bloody fast. Not just in set-pieces, but most of the time.
It's a return to past glories. The majority of 3D games haven't been that good, mainly because the developers have felt the need to do something with the 3D space that they've made. So you've had Sonic and co. do some not very fun things. With this game though, it's all about moving ahead and collecting stuff on the way.

Oh, and it has a Japanese language with English subtitles option. ;)

Cant say I'm excited about that Wii title... :)

Anyway, Just been playing Pro Evo 5 again tonight. At times this games is frustration-HELL, like a few days ago when I just couldnt seem to get a win, and hardly ever scored a goal.

How different things were today...

I was scoring easily today, even winning 1 game 5-2, where Kluivert scored all 5 goals. Including a gorgeous long range shot which went into the far away top corner. the stuff pro-evo dreams are made off :)

But the best match was my last one. I got behind 2-0 due to 2 lousy goals. You know the ones where the defense just seem to miss the ball and basically fuck up and look like clowns. Doesnt happen often but when it does it sucks.

Anyway, in the 50th minute I got a free kick, 39 meters out. I selected Alex as my FK taker, and went for a outside foot swerve aiming for near corner... AND IT WENT IN! Made my day, gorgeous goal. I'm happy.

Then... in the 90th minute, I'm still 1-2 down... I get another free kick, 40 meters out. I think:' what the hell..." again selecting Alex, and going for the same strategy, outside foot for left corner...

AND IT WENT IN AGAIN! Drop dead gorgeous again as well :D

I won the game in over-time as well :D

Pro Evo can really frustrate the hell out of me at times... but tonight I somehow was in the groove, and I played well... and scored a bunch of gorgeous goals... and it just makes you love that game so much.

:)

I've been playing Elite Beat Agents on Nintendo DS :) Great fun rhythm action game which is difficult to master too and frustrating at times. :D Not a fan of all the tunes, but I do enjoy the quirky animé style, the "stories" and humour. :D While the tracks arent the original versions (Jackson 5, Avril Lavigne, Village People etc) the cover versions are surprisingly good and close to the originals :D

I got Motorstorm on PS3 yesterday, and it doth rule :) Despite being only a single player game, you can have so much fun playing the game with others, as they mock and laugh at you when you crash horribly in slow motion. It doesn't get old :)
Also got Tekken: Dark Resurrection, GT HD and C&C3: Tiberium Wars. Not really played the latter, although the DVD blooper reel looks like it could be fun :D

I've been playing Fahrenheit. An awesome adventure game.

It borrows Shenmue's QTEs, but takes it a whole new level of user friendliness by making it 100% analogue.

I just finished Call Of Duty 2: Big Red One on the XBox. I must say, its an excellent sequel to Call Of Duty on the PC.

That ain't the real COD2, just a knock off developed by Treyarch. The proper COD2 was developed by Infinity Ward and was released on PC/Mac and Xbox 360 exclusively.

COD3 is also an unofficial sequel developed by Treyarch. The next true COD developed by Infinity Ward will be COD4: Modern Warfare.

The trailer for which looks shit hot. If they can manage to get the same level of drama and sheer balls-to-the-wall type action in as they did for the previous Calls, I'm all for it.

So what if it is "just a knock-off"? I for one really enjoyed it. Its far better than Call Of Duty: Finest Hour, thats for sure.

Anyway, I know all about the different versions. When I get an XBox 360 Elite I will buy Call Of Duty 2.

Call Of Duty 3 is an official sequel. It was developed by Treyarch so that Infinity Ward could concentrate on Call Of Duty 4.

RE: COD4. I'd prefer if it had stayed a WW2-orientated franchise. Our needs for modern combat games are provided by the fifty zillion Tom Clancy games put out each year.

Pfft. Aside from the surround sound, PC version > console version anyday. Superior controls, superior graphics, free netplay.

Been playing online checkers in XP alot today. Pretty fun, giving the old brains a bit of a workout :D

Also been playing Pro Evo 5, as well as Rallisport Challenge 2. Rallisport Challenge is starting to become pretty difficult, with the long races in the dark etc. I feel I should do better once I unlock some better cars, but so far it's pretty hard.

Except every single one of those is a shit multi-platform refresh of the last. Call of Duty 4 wants to take over from Battlefield 2 whch is still my favourite online game so more power to it.
