Me too scrap the R4.

Don't forget the R1 also has the commentary it's the Making Of and Interviews which are added (the UK R2 being NTSC-PAL doesn't count) and as the R4 maybe expensive I'm not discounting the R1 just yet.

Yeah I saw your flame war with those arrogant arseholes. Judging from the reactions I guess that they'll be sticking with yellow subs for colour films, not that I cared anyway. Yellow subs don't bother me, except on B&W films.

I can live with Yellow subs I just prefer White. There are much more important things to worry about getting right.

Yellow subs were always a certain as Madman haven't asked us. All we've had are a few comments (mostly towards Yellow subs).

In case anyone has missed it can everyone post over at Madman their thoughts on and add to the poll.

Thre best subs are white with a tiny black border around each letter, all films should be forced to use them! normal subs suck balls as always something blends in with the film.

I urge you to post at Madman then as most Aussies seem to much prefer yellow subs. It seems they're used to it from TV.

I've nothing against people preferring yellow subs but think the poll is very one sided as it doesn't show at all the international Madman market.

I voted for White subs with a black border like you but most voted Yellow. The thing to remember with Madman is they do actually listen to the public.

Yellow isnt a natural colour we are used to for such things, it looks horrific on some films and realy ruins some imagesin a film. Some dvd companies used to use it loads, but after loads of complaints they gave up, I beleve Sony/Tristar/Columbia used to use em a lot, now they wont go near them as the backlash was massive.

As they are nasty, piss looking and really distracing.

That's easily the best English friendly release of the Colour version. I doubt I'll bother though as R4 DVDs are expensive for me.

The R4 of Kitano's Dolls has been added to the DVDbeaver comparison. It sports an identical native-PAL transfer to the UK Artificial Eye disc and with the addition of Japanese DD5.1, it's the best English-language release globally available.

The Madman definitely looks sharper than the Artificial Eye to me. I'll pick the R4 up one day. I've still got to watch my R1 first.

Whilst it's unlikely that Tartan would do an PAL to NTSC transfer, I've seen it happen with other studios (the original HK R3 of House of Flying Daggers).

Or the new Street Fighter II: Animted Movie DVD, which is an "NTSC to PAL to NTSC" transfer (from what I've read, it looks ridic).

That was sourced from Mainland China. Tartan source their material from Korea so it will be NTSC when they're given it.

Tartan's R1 Tale of Two Sisters was PAL-NTSC, so beware any R1 ports which saw Native-PAL transfers for the initial R2UK release (usually films which they release theatrically).

Yeah this does seem to be the deciding factor whether they create new PAL transfers, great for the UK.

Oldboy was released theatrically and that got a proper PAL then proper NTSC release.
