Haha I was aware of that option, but decided I didn't want two players, and that I wanted a UK PS3 because I don't want to faff around with using different plugs, ordering a PS3 from abroad, wondering what the hell to do if it fails on me, and when I want to sell it I wouldn't be able to just go and give it to Game or a friend. Oh and I also want to be able to go and buy a UK Blu-ray, not have to order every single one from abroad and wait up to 3 weeks for delivery.

Why would it fail more than a UK PS3?

In the case of a PS3 all you need is a UK kettle plug which are dead easy to get hold of. You don't even need a voltage converter. You'd be able to sell it on eBay. Why would you want to get less for it at Game?

Salty can buy most UK BDs no problem, he can also buy all the Region A locked BDs you can't (of which there are quite a few). Fair enough though. I'd definitely buy a UK HD-DVD Player, and even UK BD Player if it could play Region A. If it were possible it's potentially much less hassle.

I never said it would fail more than a UK PS3, I said I'd wonder what to do if it did... you know, owning a US machine in the UK, I doubt Sony would take it off my hands.

I don't want to sell it on eBay and have to send it off, I want to take it into town and give it to them or a friend, it's less hassle.

I have plenty of US BDs, and he can't play the region B locked ones, so what's your point??

you have plenty of usa BD's yet a couple of posts earlier you intimated you didn't like importing i agree i am really missing out on those region B exclusives remind me what they are again please 8)

Doesn't it have an international warranty? I hate when manufactures don't provide them.

I'll give you the rest but that's just being silly. It's a kettle lead found in millions of stores around the country. I could see the point if needed a standards converter but it doesn't.

For probably much less money. Personally I'd never give away a PS3. They're worth to much, even when old they will be.

EIV are the only UK company locking their BDs. It's of no real loss. 99% of EIVs discs can be bought on USA BD or HD-DVD. The same cannot be said with the following:

Lionsgate
Sony - Some are Region A, some aren't.
Disney - Some are Region A, some aren't.
Fox - Granted UK too
New Line

I'm sure I've missed some. Are there any I've forgotten Salty?

The Crow is the only Region B exclusive worth anything and by all accounts it's a shit BD anyway.

Don't forget the Region A exclusive Asian releases.

The only Region A release I want is LOST: Season 3, but hopefully that will be released here in due time.

Good point those too. So far there aren't any (AFAIK) but obviously it's very much possible. Maybe when Japan starts adding English subs to their non-English language films.

Region coding sucks arse big style but if you are going to be stuck then get stuck with Region A. cheaper releases,wider selection etc.anyone arguing Region B is the way to go is deluding themselves 8) combo in stock at movietyme

It's a hard one to call if you'd get customs charges from MovieTyme. I've decided to wait for the 5500 or until new 5000 firmware is out but am unemployed again anyway, my new job didn't exactly go to plan.

I wasn't expecting to be unemployed when they did . It went horribly wrong. I was basically well overqualified (they wanted an IT Chimp) and my boss was a complete control freak. That and I had no work to do. They kept saying how busy it was yet I had 5 Support calls to answer a day and less than that e-mails to respond to. That's not busy!

It's clearly not a good idea to be spending 500 golden nuggets when you don't have a job.

That and the 5000 is so tempting yet so iffy too. I dread the idea of waiting until May but it will probably be the right thing to do in the long run. Even if Samsung release new firmware to further fix disc problems it still is unconfirmed if it will ever be Profile 1.1. Samsung have mentioned a few times it will be TrueHD 5.1 and DTS-HD but not for awhile if it will be Profile 1.1.

I so want one though.

I have just been paid for the 2 weeks I was in work and I think they've over paid me by about 30%. It could be right I suppose but I cannot see how it can be, it's way too high. I'm keeping well quite 8)

I guess it could be. I was only there 2 weeks though and wasn't "technically" made redundant. I was also paid holiday pay which I wasn't expecting.

It was a month trial and they let me go after 2 weeks but believe me I was only holding on to get a months salary out of them. It was very mutual.

BV means Disney who release most of their titles on Region A long before they do Region B, the same goes for Fox (which also means MGM).

Sony rarely use Region Coding on anything other than Region A. I cannot think of any Sony Region B titles that aren't also on Region A. EIV are really the only ones where you could actually be caught out . Lionsgate and New Line are Region A only from my previous list.
