Running on Karma

Great to see something that's so different from everything else. I recommend this movie to everyone who thinks he can tell how the movie is going to go on or how it's going to end.
I'm sure I'll rewatch that soon - it's great fun, although in the beginning I could really get into it.

Silentium

Quite shocking and good Austrian film production, concerning about the problems of the modern church (f.e.: finding people who want to become priests, so that the church doesn't die) and how they're trying to solve them (f.e.: with violence)

The movie is quite good and also very ugly at some points, but I won't rate it as I couldn't really concentrate on it all the time with lovely Elisa sitting next to me... :love4:

I love Running on Karma.
Possibly Andy Lau's best role.

It was a watchable piece of movie, okay in parts but hated Sarah J Parker, she tries to act like Jennifer Aniston in Friends, doesn't really suit her. The supporting cast was great thou

Fun with Dick and Jane - 4/5
I really enjoyed this movie, the story is very good, what happens after a big company explode in corruption (Enron), and what happens to the poor workers. Jim Carrey is really good in this, so it Tea Leoni, she stilll looks soooo fit and nice

LOL this is a great b-movie, I really loved it, Nathan Fillion is just brilliant in this. I haven't seen a movie or tv series which he isn't likeable Sereeity, Buffy - (Yes I know his was a crazy priest in this who loves to put his finger in eye sockets), 2 Guys and a girl. Love the special effects in this movie, very slimy and gorey. Special mentions has to go to Michael Rooker and Tania Saulnier

Stay Alive - 3/5
Actually not that bad a movie, yes a computer game which can kill you, but I kinda liked the geekiness of it. I would have hoped they included the game designer or a bit of development in this, the graphics was quite cool. It kinda falls into the 'It soo bad it really good' .
Now want to check out the unrated version of this.

big fan of Running On Karma myself. Total deception beforehand considering what we saw was Andy Lau in another suit. Classic idendity crisis of a film as it plays around with multiple genres but it delivers something quite different. It's the definition of Hong Kong cinema in a way.

Family Honor 4/5

Workable drama overall but Family Honor breathes the most thanks to action director Tony Leung's excellent work. Providing atmosphere and hard hitting, gritty violence that culminates in a typically fine warehouse fine.

When I saw the title, I thought you talking about the sequel to Saturday Night Fever (I fucking hate that movie with a passion).

Which one do you hate, Saturday Night Fever or Staying Alive (which I think is what the Sly directed movie's called)?

Saturday Night Fever, never saw the sequel for obvious reasons.

Please don't try to convince me of it's worth now, I don't care. "Period-defining and a highly influential film with the best-selling soundtrack ever" it might of been, but it doesn't mean that it was any good. "Masterpiece of the wasted-youth genre" my arse.

Beyond Hypothermia 4/5

Encore viewing. I could put down the film for many reasons but there's so much fucking strength in Wu and Lau's scenes that this IS a favourite of mine.

Beyond Hypothermia is a great movie. It was one of the first Non-Jackie-HK-Films I saw, and the first I saw with Lau Ching-wan.

I have to rewatch it someday as I can't recall a lot. I just know that I really liked the music and cinematography (the movie is mostly set at night - right?), and that in the end there was a very heroic bloodshed like finale...

Is there a nice DVD for it out there?

not primarily a night film as there are day scenes in Korea and the finale briefly seen first in the beginning of the film takes place at day. Arthur Wong shot the film.

Dvd-wise, no ideal choice. The Mainland dvd offers up dual Chinese tracks but is taken from a cinema print so it's burned in subs for ya. Think the German dvd is uncut but may lack the Cantonese/Korean mixed track. No English subs in any case. Spanish dvd is supposed to look great and contain a very strange Cantonese/Korean/English soundtrack hybrid that makes no sense as characters flip flop between the Chinese and English. US dvd is dubbed only and cut (one fairly insignificant scene).

BH didn't do a lot for me. Nice cinematography and as DH005 said it has a good soundtrack. But apart form that... hmnmm....

Pan’s Labyrinth – 4,5/5
I think this is gonna be my favourite film of 2006. Quite surprising considering I’m not a huge fan of Guillermo del Toro and I generally dislike the fantasy genre. But Pan’s Labyrinth isn’t exactly your typical fantasy fare. Most of the film’s running time is used to display the horrors of the Spanish civil war. Obviously a touchy subject to del Toro as his vision seems very dark and uncompromising. There’s a good amount brutal violence to be seen, and a lot worse stuff going on off-screen. The director doesn’t have much mercy to any of his characters. The movie being shot from a point of view of a little child doesn’t make it any easier. But all this darkness makes the amazing and often stunningly beautiful fantasy sequences even more effective. Thanks to the excellent script, great acting and absolutely stunning special effects / make up work the film is able to move fluently back and forth between the two worlds. The most rewarding movie experience I’ve had this year.

Running on Karma = Running on Crapola.

Symptomatic of why HK cinema is in its creative nadir.

I cannot believe this won Best Picture.

15 years before it wouldn't have been nominated.

Ace but goddamn dubtitles on the UK Optimum disc. :x

The Kiki dubtitles are an accurate translation of the original Japanese. So much so that no other DVD release has bothered to include an independant translation.

Unless of course the r2uk only has dubtitles of the Disney dub?

Les anges de l'apocalypse

Nice movie with Jean Reno... reminded me of The Da Vinci Code at some times. Although the finale is rather ridiculous in my eyes this movie is great fun.
