A History of Violence 2.5/5
A disappointment. Stars off well, with an effective build-up, then has nowhere left to go. By the time William Hurt appeared doing his sub-DeNiro gangster schtick (who did he blow to get an Oscar nom?) I didn't care. Might have be preferable with a better lead actor. Viggo Mortensen is so incredibly bland and sleepy-looking I had no idea what he was supposed to be thinking.

IMO Peacock King started off very slowly (hell, its only 80 mins long so not sure why it was slow?) then picked up towards the end.

Breathtaking. Kitano really is a genius.
Although this movie does't tell yakuza- but lovestories... it's very cruel. And still it gives you a warm feeling sometimes.
Everyone will feel differently watching it.

The Tai-Chi Master aka Twin Warriors 4/5
I doubt anyone else has seen this little known and underrated Jet Li flick. Well I've seen it uncut. It has heavy anime influences, especially in the humour. I can see elements of Fist of the North Star in there. This film's a hoot.

Harmless, light but that is its problems. The ocassional sweet scene between Athena Chu and Nick Cheung helps but Marco Mak has done the right thing by not trying rom-com again.

Big cast of Chang Cheh's old and new guard but the whole affair is let down by a lack of story coherence. Fine fights though, some typically fun and gory in the Chang Cheh vein.

The Host 4.5/5
Not as good as Memories of Murder, but still a damn good movie. The rather quirky sort of humor worked well (again) and was nicely balanced against the more serious stuff (suspense, social commentary...).
Cannot wait for the DVD release.

Indeed. Am a big fan of director Nam Nai-choi's work, Peacock King being only ok in comparison to full on madness like Seventh Curse and The Cat.Have you seen Peacock King Knete? I bet you have.

Yet Story Of Ricky doesn't approach the B-movie full speed ahead extravaganza of those mentioned films. Keep an eye on Joy Sales release scheudle for those and Nam Nai Choi's violent rape/revenge drama Her Vengeance.Haven't seen those two films, but I do admit I enjoyed the bonkers Story of Ricky

A serious idea by Danny Lee and seriously thought over by director Jamie Luk but in the end they misfire incredibly badly. With an unsympathetic character arc for Simon Yam's Tommy, you could certainly always explore that but that never happens. Despite Carina Lau and Danny Lee being standouts.

Heroes Shed No Tears - 4/5
Really good film Not quite a 4.5/5 as the story is a bit rough around the edges and not as good as Bullet In The Head or The Killer, this was one of Woo's early films to be fair though. The ending seemed rather strange and abrupt also.
What happened to the father of the little boy in the last shot? I'm pleased its not a "Hollywood" ending though.
In some ways I found the film probably as brutal as BITH.
I also found piece of music really familliar, I'm certain its been used in other movies, its about 55 minutes in it when the 2 Thai hookers undress in that guy's room. It sounded like it was from Game of Death II or Enter The Dragon or something.
Now I really want to put the film on my "To Buy" list when its cheaper
