Casualties of War - 4/5
Powerful drama with fine acting, Sean Penn's accent was a bit ropey though. De Palma knocks it out the park again.

Ah yes Commando.

"Why don't you let off some steam Bennet!"

*After killing assassin on the plane, Matrix says to air hostess*
"Don't wake my friend, he's dead tired."

From Running Man:

"Killian I'd love to see you eat that contract, BUT I HOPE YOU LEAVE ENOUGH ROOM FOR MY FIST BECAUSE I'M GOING TO RAM IT INTO YOUR STOMACH AND BREAK YOUR GODAMN SPINE!"

Killian: You bastard! Drop dead!
Arnie: I don't do requests.

:D

From Commando:

WRONG!!

hey,

The Curse Of Lola 3/5

Francis Ng and Tian Yuan star in this emotional mystery that plays around with audiences, letting us think we're watching a different genre initially. Director Li Hong directs with style and confidence and while not a stunning debut work, it showcases a talent that has a future.

Francis brings some of his low-key skills when needed and Tian Yuan of Butterfly fame continue to develop step by step. Also performs the closing credits song.

The Tuxedo.

3/5

Dire acting by both leads, only saved by Hewitt's looks.

"Nice rack"

Best scene of the whole film. Maybe the only good thing as well.

Maybe when we post a review we should post our favourite quote from the film?

Full Alert 3/5

Top notch character driven, police thriller with another super turn from Lau Ching Wan. Got to love his intensity.

Walk the Line - 3/5
Top notch acting, but average writing and direction from James Mangold.

Zombie Honeymoon 2/5
Not sure why or how I ended up watching this?

John Tucker Must Die 3/5
Aye not bad but Mean Girls was better.

Severance 4/5
Pretty damn good kinda weird. It's hilarious yet unpleasant and sick at the same time. Sure it has black comedy... but there are some scenes, which are just not right...

Imagine watching Hard Candy with slapstick comedy.... and that's the sort of mood generated throughout this film.

Porco Rosso 5/5
Yup one of Miyazaki's strongest. This appears to be a more mature effort, almost noirish in style with touches of more 'grown up' humour. Not exactly sure how or why Porco was cursed but the whole film was simply beautiful. Loved it.

Got Kiki's and Cat Returns on their way soon...

Too much style, not enough plot...
I was expecting more from Andrew Lau and his sassy girl. :|

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) - 4.25/5

I really enjoyed this :) I have read the book of course - or had it read to me I beleive, many times when I was young, but I also grew up with this film version. It's not very close to the book and yet - I really don't know why Dahl didnt like it - even though he worked on the film (he wrote the screenplay). Maybe the accuracy of book to film plus its well known that Dahl's script was not adhered to and re-written. The only time Gene Wilder says anything from the book is during the disturbing boat scene ("There's no earthly way of knowing/Which direction we are going/Is it raining/Is it snowing...")
Wilder is superb as the strange/sinister but eventually nice candy maker Wonka, wierd yet charming, and I love the comic performance of Roy Kinnear (Mr. Salt). When you see how posh Veruca is, its funny her father is a rather bluff, straight talking Northerner :D
The production design is great too, the picturesque German town and the beautifully designed factory. And I love the Oompa Loompas too, with the little songs they make up :D
As for songs, who can forget Veruca's show-like "I Want The World (I Want It Now)" and "I've Got a Golden Ticket" - great :)

Fargo 4/5

Didn't have the same impact as when I first saw it, but still a very clever, quirky movie. It's really a parody/satire of Made for TV true stories.

Silent hill 2.5/5

After a good start, the film went a bit west unfortunately. Love the pyramid head thingy though.

Snakes on a Plane 4/5

Now that's what I'm talkin' about!

Absolutely loved it. Funny and thrilling in equal measure.

The Hustler: 4 outta 5.

Good movie, GREAT performances by pretty much the whole cast. Newman and Gleason are amazing. Would have liked to have seen Gleason do more simular roles.

However, it was a bit slow at times, and pretty quiet when there's no music or whatever rolling in some scenes. So it's a very well made movie, but also a movie that can be a bit of a task to sit through...
