The Statement - 3/5
Most kudos go to Michael Caine for portraying a character that must have been the farest away from his own. He plays a French collaborator of the Nazis, who helped with the execution of 7 Jews. 40 years later he still lives in France, constantly hiding. Now he finds the police, judiciary and a Jewish killer commando after him. Great action scenes for a 70 years-old.

Well what can I say? At times the action is pretty funky, especially with the excellent score, but the dialogue scenes seem a little forced, especially Depp's performance.

Summer Vacation: 1999 - 5/5
Straight into my Top10 of Japanese films. It's a surreal and haunting, almost dreamlike drama that takes place in the vague setting of a boys boarding school in the future. The boys are plated by girls but look just like boys are voiced by them... It's strange but very good. Subbed VHS's on Amazon marketplace and eBay.

Fallen Angels - 4.5/5
Great. Terrific use of music (even the awful Canto-pop), beautifully shot, emotionally-engaging (especially in the humour department via Takeshi Kaneshiro's character, far better than the sulky twat from C.E.). Far better than C.E. IMO.

Happy Together - 5/5

Terrific. A great portrait of two egotistical individuals stuck in a continous vicious cycle that neither can break. Awesome acting.

Days of Being Wild - 3/5
It was okay, I didn't see what the big deal about it was. Christ, Leslie Cheung's character was such a prick and him realising prickiness at the end didn't change anything.

As Tears Go By - 2.5/5
It was so mind-numblingly average and SO clearly made "before WKW became WKW". Makes me appreciate DOBW a whole lot more. The use of the Top Gun/Berlin's "Take My Breathe Away" cover made me cringe.

hey,

Dreaming The Reality 4/5

One of the very best girls with guns flicks, carrying little class or actual good drama but it's workable for the genre film it is (an unusually long one, over 100 minutes). Nice, gory exercise in mayhem.

24 Season 5 5/5

Wohoahoahoah man! After the farse that was season 4, season 5 is so awesome that some of that awesomeness has metaphorically seeped into season 4 and now season 4 is kinda awesome too.

Season 5 of 24 rocks man!!!

Maybe. But giving it 5/5 diminishes Seasons 1-3 somehow, cos the fifth season is nowhere near as good as the first three.
True, the ending of the fifth season rules, but it's the lead-up to it that sucks a little :P

I think it might be better than three... maybe just as good as one... two's probably my fav... difficult to tell.

Hmm, you do sound confused... I'll put the 5/5 for season 5 down to that. :D

The fifth season ended just as I had thought the fourth season would end.

The 5th season was the worst in my opinion. The best one so far is season 2.

I still reckon Season 1 was the best, the Kim nonsense in S2 detracted from the general goodness for me. 4 & 5 are best forgotten and 3 was a mxied bag.

Shaolin Temple (1976) – 3/5
Nice Shaw film, but nothing too special really. Average action with good cast. But the ending was really great. Both action and storywise.

Miami Vice – 3,5/5
The beginning wasn’t very good, I even got bored a few times. But the last 2/3 was really nice. Shooting on digital video nearly ruined some scenes, but it also gave the movie a nice touch of realism. I liked Gong Li’s part, but Naomie Harris only slowed the movie down.

A Day on the Planet – 4/5
I bought this because for some reason I thought it was directed by Isshin Inudou. It’s not, but the film turned out to be great. There’s almost no plot, but the characters are lovely. Satoshi Tsumabuki is just as good as he was in Jozee, and Ayumi Ito is absolutely adorable.

L’Armée des ombres – 4,5/5
There was one slightly unrealistic scene that bothered me a little. Other than that the movie was perfect. One of the best and most realistic war movies I’ve seen. Absolutely no bullshit heroism here. The ending was perfect.

Should this thread be locked (archived as such) and a new one started? It's now so ridiculously big, there's no way you can find old reviews.

I'm more than happy either way. It's more of an idea?

Is there anyway to search within a thread? So, for instance, if I entered Hard-Boiled as a search query, I'd get all the posts within just this thread where the film is mentioned. If this is the case, then I don't see the size being a problem.

Just a thought...

I say we let it hit until page 140, make it even.

Kurgan - sadly phpbb sux and doesn't let this happen.

It may as well be 150 as it won't take long at the rate the thread moves but overall I presume you're in favour.

Others?
