I love listening to Kermode but it's a fact he's biased when it comes to horror. Not that I'm saying Triangle is bad. I'm listening to that commentary in the car at the moment (not literally obviously).

Well whoever calls Triangle a "Horror", is wrong.

That's like calling Fight Club, a fight film. Or Taken, a family drama.

Labelling films like that is pretty sad most of the time.

Kermode frequently slags off new release horror films. He just happened to appreciate this one.

Stop motion animated movie based on Roald Dahl's well loved book, it has some clever updates and expansions to the original source (as far as I can tell, I havent read it since I was a kid) and is often amusing, helped by the excellent voice cast including George Clooney and Meryl Streep

Well take off all them stars for the utterly shit animation they used

The short clips I saw from Mr. Fox, I was put off by the style and animation (didn't like either), as well as the voice-acting by Mel. I just don't like it when you can hear too clearly who's voice it is: it takes me out of the movie.

Ah, Mel Clooney. Yes, a great voice actor.

The animation looks jerky to me and I've already seen two Wes Anderson movies - that's two too many frankly.

Ow yeah, I watched Die Hard 4 last friday. I'd rate it 3.5 outta 5: was more fun than I thought it would be.
Quite liked the story and the villain, and although it was a bit too much on the 'ow you're a hero, bald Bruce' and way OTT at times (Die Hard 1 and Die Hard 3 were a bit more 'realistic'), it was just entertaining to watch.

Black Rain

Good thriller, doesn't quite hit the target. Charismatic actors and stylish visuals are major asset, but action sequences are average and script lacks dramatic punch.

An under-rated film IMO.

Many people not so familiar with Japanese cinema don't realize how great the cast really is; the Japanese supporting stars are even bigger stars than Douglas and Garcia (who happens to be one of my favorite actors, although I haven't seen so many of his movies). Ken Takakura (the official God of yakuza films, and a legendary actor), Tomisaburo Wakayama (Ogami Itto himself), and Yasaku Matsuda (one of the all time coolest Japanese actors, sadly died soon after this film)...

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (USA, 2009) – 2/5
Airplane viewing. Needed to pick something that was bad enough not to be ruined by poor viewing conditions, but would still help pass a few hours. Does the job more or less. 5 inch tall Owen Wilson is quite amusing in theory, sometimes in practice, too.

The Bourne Ultimatum (USA, 2007) – 3/5
Tense and enjoyable, but somewhat irritatingly edited thriller that is basically a continuous 2 hour chase scene. Sometimes the fast editing works, but in action scenes it’s often impossible to say who’s hitting who and which kick was the one that brought the villain down. It’s also a bit shame that the series has turned into ultra modern IT thriller that moves from one country to another every 5 minutes. The first and best film in the trilogy was far more successful at exploiting its fresh European winter locations.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari: 3/5

A bit wierd in places with a strange story about a sleepwalking guy who supposedly commits murders... a famous German silent film. Not easy to watch as its a silent film but the most interesting thing was the live, improvised music composed by Neil Brand who is quite famous I think.

Nosferatu: 3/5

Different print to the BFI DVD I have - looked to be a poor quality print (possibly from the US), it changes all the names so they fit the Dracula story (eg "Count Dracula" instead of Orlok), its only in black and white (no tinting) and it's about 30 minutes shorter than the BFI DVD. Quite an experience with the live music though.

He was on a series with Paul Merton called "Silent Clowns", the guy who improvised the music used during showings of silent comedy shorts to an audience.

Decent horror romp but hardly a classic...far better than most studio horror though.watched the unseen version but it seemed virtually identical to the theatrical to me.
