That would be cool. Cinemas are relatively cheap in Hong Kong, about 60-70 HK$ for an IMAX showing. I'll be moving there in December so I'm hoping I'll get a chance to check out The Grandmasters then. Hopefully, even the new Bond movie will still be showing by then.

I'm in Sapporo. Not the best place in terms of movies, though - we miss the small indie stuff and most genre cinema as there isn't much cinema culture here. A couple of good theaters can be found, though... Theater Kino, where you can catch mid-size arthouse releases (Toshiyaki Toyoda, Aki Kaurismäki, Shinya Tsukamoto, Tetsuaki Matsue...), Sasori-za, which occasionally picks stuff like Sion Sono films or Henge, and Dinos Cinema, which is a mainstream cinema with occasional genre cinema pick ups (Zombie Ass played earlier this month, Human Centipede 2 is listed for 2012 as well, some HK movies as well).

But the great cinemas are in Tokyo. I do a weekend tip to Tokyo every now and then when there's enough interesting stuff playing at the same time (preferrably both new releases and retrospectives)

The school uniform plan is in the works, too

I have no idea where Sapporo would be. I have a travelguide about Japan (I think it's Lonely planet) I very often browse through, but I've got a really shitty memory so I also always forget the stuff I read ...

Aren't there any small arthouse theaters around your place? Maybe you could get something started at school or something?

How are your possibilities in japan for downloading stuff? Can you download american TV-shows and anime and stuff like that? Or are they very strict about that!? I have to check out how that works in Hong Kong as well, cause there are lots of places where you can buy illegal Korean series and shit that you can't even buy legally, but I'm affraid if I'll download anime or whatever that it could cause problems.

I'm happy to say I've never experienced an earthquake and I hope I'll never will, although TBH living in Japan would probably be worth it.

I think I might spend the summer in Japan, the hope being that now that I'm fluent and well connected there I can more easily find some cash-in-hand work (saving the working holiday visa option for a couple years time). Imagine I'd head to Tokyo first as that's my base but I want to go south.
