La Totale! I've never seen it, but I think True Lies carries most of the comedy scenarios over and just adds big Jim Cameron action sequences on top. In the original the husband doesn't get her to dance for him, he tries to have sex with her (guess you could call it attempted rape, because it's in a dark room and she doesn't know it's her husband)!

Thanks. I had no idea it was even a remake. La Totale! was only made 3 years prior, standard for Hollywood.

I love True Lies though, it's like a bonus film that could've come out on the home release of T2!

Is it wrong to think of it as being like T2.5?

It just keeps me in the Cameron Universe early 90's style for a bit longer

True Lies was a fun and entertaining film. I don't think it was misogynist, and TBH I seriously wouldn't give a fuck if it was...

I don't think James Cameron is a misogynist, but I think True Lies is misogynistic, maybe more than intended. I know it's supposed to be funny, but I really didn't like that whole episode, and would happily have seen it removed from the film. When Art Malik slaps Tia Carerre we think 'what a nasty bastard' because he's a bad guy... when Arnie torments his wife (and his plan is cruel to be sure) we're supposed to cheer and nod our heads in agreement like even if she was having an affair it would be justified.

To label the film as misogynistic because of one scene is a stretch. Do you think Sin City is too? I do.

I'd happily (and have done) remove the rape scene from Naked Weapon. What an utterly vile and out of place scene that was.

Yeah and I hate how Cameron made the female characters in Aliens so weak....oh wait!

It's not one scene. It's a subplot.

I don't remember it well (only saw it once at the cinema). But I do seem to recall all female characters being abused or slutty or nude.
